I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

iPad apps:

I don't remember the prices of anything, I have sometimes been estravagant but I don't know on what, so I'll just list the things I like and you'll have to beware of possible high prices

I get a ton of used out of StillTasty: from the website that tells you if your food is spoiled - with the pap you can inventory your kitchen. Enormously helpful in getting through my produce in a timely fashion AND knowing what I've got,

Auditorium: game, lights and music, I really like it

Sleep Cycle: does a gradual wake up alarm thing and tracks your sleeping pattern, but you have to leave the ipad (or iphone that it was really designed for) tucked into your sheets while you sleep, so it's a question of whether you're willing to do that. Doss help me get a good nights' rest when I commit to using it several nights in a row.

Farmer's Market Finder and Locavore I haven't used that much just because where I usually am doesn't have that much to keep track of, but they've both found useful stuff for me. I would think in a more urban area they could both be more valuable.

Comics (from Comixology, I'm not sure if I have the app name right) is a pretty sweet comic reader. I think the app is free and you pay for comics, and some of those are free.

Netflix. Watch Instantly.

Osmos is a pretty good physics-based game. It's all orbital mechanics type stuff, but with soothing images and music so it's kind of nice for waiting around trying not to stress about what you're waiting for. And physics, yay.

PeakFinder I love, but I am a freak about not knowing what mountains I am looking at and having the magical device tell me is awesome. Probably mire useful on an iPhone, but I don't have an iPhone; it's good on the iPad, I know.

EW Must List. I read EW religiously, so I like having this - the same list as the print edition but with links to downloads or videos or what have you embedded.

Marking le nubian's post for things I might need...

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

when i die, please bake my ashes into a brick and use me to hit fascists.

I love GoodReader on my iPad. Love, love, love it.

I don't know if it's still free, but a fun stargazing app with some nice functionality is GoSkyWatch Planetarium.

Didn't know there was a VLC app!! *runs to store*

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

tiggy, many laptops have power-saving settings that cause the CPU to slow down during times of light load, etc. These settings should make your laptop run cooler (assuming you're not doing things that demand a lot of CPU).
