IE9 sounds like it might actually be good. Microsoft seems to be realizing it can't determine the standards the Internet will use.

Right now I'm using Chrome at work which is nice, and Firefox 4 at home since Chrome doesn't let me fine-tune the settings. I've got Firefox 4 running off a SSD with RAM-only caching. It is quick like a quick thing. Chrome doesn't seem to let me free itself of the disk and I really don't want it caching to my SSD.

Bonnie, do you have an OSX boot install CD/dvd?

If so, You can boot up and instead of the install, one of the tools in the menus is a password reset utility.

Thanks Daniel. I've been looking around for the same guidance and have tried to boot from my Tiger install disk and it just hasn't worked. I must be hitting the c at the wrong time or something.

Seriously, I tried so many times this afternoon, I was nearly to the point of throwing things...and I'm not a thrower.

The way my office is set up, it's a trial to unhook the monitor and keyboard, switch to the second tower, have my attempts fail, replace the cords, cruise the 'net for help...re-reattach the cords and have more attempts fail.

It really got to me, so I took a few hours off. I'll print out your link and try again in the morning.

Bonnie, ohher possibilities include:

Bypass primary startup volume and seek a different startup volume (CD, etc.): Hold Cmd-Opt-Shift-Delete during startup

Choose Startup disk before booting: Hold Option during startup

Doing it wrong can cause it to break and/or become a fire hazard.

Daniel, It would seem that I don't actually have a bootable disk after all.

My friend's company gifted me with the towers...software installed...and a OSX disk. Tragically, I'm at 10.4.11 and the disk is for 10.4.6, which the system is rejecting.

My other startup disc is for 9.1, which is also not working.

Is it possible to make a bootable disk from this system, that I could then use on the other (identical) machine?

I've been googling all over for how to do this and have not found anything definitive...which leads me to believe I am screwed.

Is that the case?

Does the G5 and your other system have firewire? You could use target disk mode.

If you have a way of downloading it, I suppose an ISO disk of a bootable install could be burned on your other machine....

Anyone else using Firefox 4 beta 3? Anyone else annoyed by the real estate taken up by the bookmarks toolbar?
