Cats to become a rabbit should gather immediately now here

I am OK switching to AT & T, but I literally do not know how to go about it-- like do you cnacel t-mobile and pay their fee first, then buy the phone, then sign up with ATT, or do you buy the phone, transfer your number, then cancel the t-mobile.

I have never switched carriers before.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

I'm not sure the iPhone 4 has been jailbroken or unlocked yet. The earlier models have, but you'd have to get them on the grey market.

If you'd rather just wait until your T-Mobile contract runs out, it's easy - Apple/AT&T will handle everything for you in terms of switching on your service.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Sophia,

you might still be able to get an iphone 3gs if you don't want to deal with the iphone 4 drama.

Jessica's right, ATT will handle the phone number switch, etc. I don't know how long it takes, but it can be pretty efficient. No need to get a new number if you don't want one.

You may want to call tmobile just see how much the cancellation fee is, but I think you will need to cancel the acct with them after att has made the switch.

Every time I've switched carriers this has been automatic as long as I was porting the number.

good to know Jessica.

I have never changed carriers, so I don't about this.

Kiss me, my girl, before I'm sick.

Has anyone used HTC Incredible? I put in for an upgrade on my phone but I have been waiting for the damn phone for WEEKS because they are out of stock. I wanted to stick with Verizon, as they offered me a good deal (rebates and discounts for being a loyal customer, etc., so the phone actually costs only $100), plus I get 20% discount for both voice and dataplan through work, but the waiting is getting ridiculous. I know Incredible got awesome reviews from Wired and CNET and everywhere, but I am thisclose to chucking it all and just getting an iPhone (except then I'd want an iPhone4 with bigger capacity and that's $200 more than what I'd have paid for the Incredible. BAH.)

Yeah, Sophia--you just go in after your contract is up (might want to call and double check on that) and buy the phone and they should ask if you want to port the number. It used to take a couple days and now it only takes a couple hours. And they'll cancel your other service.

When I switched from Verizon to AT&T, my new phone was working about 10 minutes after I left the store. It was wicked fast.

Our wings are not tired.

Sophia, in the meantime, you can use any T-mobile phone (used is fine, get one on Craigslist) to ride out the rest of your contract. You can probably find a cheapo for $10 and just go into T-mobile and tell them you need a replacement SIM.
