When I switched from Verizon to AT&T, my new phone was working about 10 minutes after I left the store. It was wicked fast.

Sophia, in the meantime, you can use any T-mobile phone (used is fine, get one on Craigslist) to ride out the rest of your contract. You can probably find a cheapo for $10 and just go into T-mobile and tell them you need a replacement SIM.
Thank you all! I am hampered by trying to do everything on-line (the last time I lost my phone, the store would neither give me a SIM card or SELL me a phone, they told me I needed to do it online, since I started online)

I'm beginning to believe in the "bad batch" theory, btw, due to the fact that I've tried every which way I can to make my phone drop bars, and I can't do it. So I think I got lucky when my pre-order didn't go through.
I think it works for us because we're in NYC. In New York, AT&T uses 850MHz for 3G. In other cities AT&T uses 1900MHz, which would tend to perform worse.
