Well, personally, I kind of want to slay the dragon.

A product endorsement: This el cheapo transfer cable [link] works amazingly well.

Our wings are not tired.

Just got a box from Amazon, a week before my birthday. I asked Steve not to give me ANY more books for my birthday because for the last 2 years, every gift-giving situation had him giving me yet another book. Yes, I love books, yes I love receiving them as gifts. But when he lugged over the 4 lb Willie Mays biography to London to give me for graduation, I had to gently and sweetly say NO MORE BOOKS.

So, the note:

"Hi honey! Happy birthday! No books (as requested); just a book reader. I love you. Steve."

He sent me a Kindle.

This is why I don't understand those Valentine's Day ads about flowers and diamonds. Nothing says love like electronics.

Heh. This thing is pretty cool. My favorite part is the non-glare. So easy on the eyes.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

LOL.

enjoy it! I don't like that I can't skim well on it, but for reading, it is great.

In my case, I am distracted VERY easily, so I am hoping the one-noteness of the Kindle will be good for me. I would never read a book on an iPad, because, hello, ALL THOSE SHINY apps, but the Kindle's plain jane approach is exactly what I need. I am not as voracious a reader as meara, but I am already excited about not having to lug books and magazines around for air travel anymore.

"Faded like the lilac, he thought."

Oh, that`s awesome! It`s not a book, it`s all the books!

Hah! I am still contemplating kindle vs. ipad, but since you can get the kindle reader ON the ipad, I'm probably going to go for ipad...eventually. Though the shiny shiny apps will indeed be distracting, I fear moreso will be the sad sadness of not having the actual hard book filling up a shelf making me feel like I've got some real thing (but happy will be not filling half my suitcase on a trip cross country just because 10 hours of air travel means I need 10 books!)

Our wings are not tired.

My habit of playing bejeweled for an hour before actually doing anything useful on the iPhone makes me think having a Kindle will be very useful for, you know, reading.
