"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

you know what this is fucking good for? personal ads.

back in the day, some men would send me fake photos they found elsewhere. This would be $$ for that.

Hey. New board.

No discussion of the new iPhone OS?

Multi-tasking (albeit somewhat limited) is finally coming! They seem to have offered most of the commonly requested background services (audio, VOIP, internal push notifications) at least, though I've read some complaints that you still can't have a Twitter client, e.g., downloading updates in the background.

I'm personally excited about the side-effect that some less-well-designed apps that lose their states when closed (I'm talking to you, Bridge Baron, though not that strongly as I love playing bridge on you) will have that taken care of at the OS level now. At least, I think that's what I read.

I'm less excited about the Apple-sponsored ad machine. Ads looking cooler and integrating better into the system is not really something that gets me all excited. Mostly, I want ads, if I must have them to get the occasional free app, to be invisible. Admittedly, I'm sure that means these will work better, but again, not sure that's a good thing.

Oh, and iBooks on the iPhone is nice. I have way too many Kindle books to switch platforms at this point, but options are good.

Typo Boy, actually that's not how I was using $$.

I was just slanging it up, literally thinking "that's money!" but not really meaning "profit."

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Gris,

the things I am most excited about are: a) being able to customize my background; b) having fucking folders (!!!!!).

I'm disappointed there aren't profiles for the iphone though. I am thinking about getting an iphone soon, and I live and die by timed/scheduled profiles.

Now let us crush something soft and watch it fountain blood. That is a girlish thing to want to do, yes?

I've never really been interested in a background for the phone (although it's PURTY on the pad) but FOLDERS FOLDERS FOLDERS!!! And local notifications! And background Pandora! And OMG NEW MAIL APP! And FOLDERS!

Also, I'm fairly sure the multitasking thing is specifically targeted at me, to make me upgrade to a new phone the very moment I qualify for an upgrade this summer.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Interesting. I have never had a smartphone where I couldn't set the background (currently the Metallicar, but it's been as sad as Miami Vice) or have folders--how are files stored in the current iPhone OS? All together? Seriously?

Gris - Apr 08, 2010 1:14:33 pm PDT #13551 of 25501
Hey. New board.

"files" aren't really part of the iPhone idea. You have apps. The apps might have information that they hold (e.g. iPod has music tracks, Media has pictures, etc) but you never see the files themselves unless you jailbreak the phone and telnet in.

So you can't use it as a hard drive and copy files over? Annoyingly I can't work out how to bluetooth files over to my Android phone, but I can copy over USB.

What benefit will folders bring then, if you're not using the file metaphor?

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

Folders for apps, I assume.
