I can't open it until he gets home on Tuesday.
Sure you can! Tell him the Buffistas said it was okay. Do you need us to write you a note?
Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!

You are a better woman than I, Kristin.
I have my iPad (posting from it right now AIFG!) and so far, I love it! Like a giant iPhone. Big beautiful touchscreen goodness.
I'm trying to help a friend - her MacBook got frelled during a software update. We ran Disk Utility and it says:
Disk Utility can't repair this disk. Back up as many of your files as possible, reformat the disk, and restore your backed-up files.
But it can only be booted from an installatin DVD, and she wants to get her files off if possible. Could it be booted in disk target mode? Does that only work if you have a Firewire cable?
eta: Yeah, we need firewire. And her old iBook appears to be dead, so I'd need to grab my MacBook....
So, what are the odds it'd still work in Target Mode?
You can do a reinstall "Archive and install" on the thing. Takes about an hour, and you can get files off then.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a good font manager for Windows?
Pix, how is it?
I have no real desire to read ebooks on my iPhone, but I'm still kind of pissed that iBooks is iPad-only.
Hopefully that's a "not yet" thing, Jessica.
Other things I'm labeling "not yet":
- Flash on the iPad.
- Multitasking on the iPad.
- a camera on the iPad.
