Ah, yes, of course. The gypsies, they gave you your soul. The gypsies are filthy people. Ptui! We shall speak of them no more.

Because books.

Um, how do you open a DOS window?

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

One way: Click 'Start', then 'Run' and type 'cmd' and hit enter. (I have not used Windows 7, so I'm not 100% sure this works.)

Also, can other computers connect via your WiFi? (It may be misconfigured.)

Yeah, I'm on the old laptop via the wifi.

Lemme try the DOS thing.

Also, when you have a DOS window, type 'ipconfig' without quotes, hit Enter and see what happens.

Anyway, the steps I've posted should narrow the problem down. Hopefully, someone with actual Windows 7 experience can then help out....

OK, does ping with the number work?

I'll try that. But I also did that "ipconfig" thing and it showed ... a lot of stuff I don't understand and two places that said "media disconnected".

Huh. Was the "media disconnected" related to Ethernet? If so, that's OK.

Our wings are not tired.

Amy, is your network secure (using WEP, etc)?
