And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

Here's where I found the instructions:

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

that's brilliant. I saved that to evernote.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Deal of the year: Best mouse now available for cheap

Psst! Want the best mouse in the universe for a price that's a steal? The Logitech MX 1100 is an $80 mouse, but the company is now selling MX 1100 mice for $37. The catch? Logitech says they're brand new and in perfect condition, but their boxes are "dented."

Whoa. We love this mouse, especially its hyperscrolling capability that lets you go from top to bottom of a huge document at blazing speed. Highly recommended, especially for $37. Just enter the coupon code logi_mx1100_12910 on the Logitech website, and it's yours. Last we checked, there were still some left.

I found myself kind of starting to understand the iPad appeal this morning while I was waiting for my bagel to toast. A little tablet that lived in the kitchen/living room area and had the paper delivered electronically every morning would be neat to have - especially when the paper is 4 flights down and it's 10 degrees below freezing outside. (Still not worth $500+ to me, but it's definitely moved up from "I wouldn't sell it on eBay if someone gave me one" to "I kind of hope somebody gives me one.")

[eta: And obviously a Kindle or Nook would do that too, but not with pictures and I couldn't check b.org on it when I got bored with the news.]

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

technically, the kindle can connect to the Internet. it isn't particularly fast or anything, but I have checked email on the kindle once or twice.

I haven't used the Kindle browser myself, but I've heard it's a pretty painful experience. (And made deliberately so by Amazon so people don't take advantage of the free 3G connection.)

Hey. New board.

Yeah, Kindle browsing, not so great. I don't think it was made painful intentionally, though: e-ink feels like the culprit.

I just hacked my Kindle to be able to read non-DRMed ePub books, so I've used the browser to explore google books a little bit. It works, but it's definitely worth knowing exactly what to search for before launching its browser.

When I'm standing around the cold kitchen, though, I just pull out the iPhone. I can check b.org and e-mail, and the NYT app is quite nice.

Cross posted with Natter:

Is there anyone around that I can ask a stupid question about Word charts? I am trying to figure out how to do one thing that should be fairly easy, but I can't get it.

I take it that "make it in Excel, then cut and paste" is not a solution? When you past, you can insert as static file or as a display that is linked to worksheet.

Nope--we got it worked out in Natter though.
