Yeah, it'd be nice to be able to hook up external drives, USB keyboards, etc.

I wish there were a Usb connector rather than just the hook to your computer thing.
Yeah - on first glance I thought the connector thingy *was* a USB port, but apparently not. It would be really nice to be able to plug a flash drive into it (especially on the 16GB version).
Can you connect a USB port to the connector thingy? I''m not buying anything that doesn't have USB connectivity.
I could google, but I wanna see if anyone knows this off the top of their heads. Last night I connected my MacBook Pro to my TV via a VGA cable. But I couldn't play a HD TV show from iTunes because the DRM couldn't validate my TV over the VGA cable. So what kinds of cables can do this validation.
Stupid DRM won't let me play my legally-obtained TV show....
I think only HDMI, and sometimes that doesn't work if you split the audio and video (i.e., video to the TV, audio to a reciever).

Apple will be selling such a thing, (look here and scroll down), but it looks like its functionality will be *very* limited.
The 30 Pin iPod connector includes USB functionality so my guess is that there will be some options available in that department.
Also you aren't limited to the keyboard dock, it will also work with bluetooth keyboards. While that doesn't open up everything, it does broaden the field a little. I also suspect that some companies will come out with a way to connect USB keyboards to the dock connector.
I'm kind of wanting the thing now. It's so pretty and shiny. I don't have the money to spare, though, and maybe it's just as well. If it had a phone app, it might be irresistible.
While there isn't an official phone app, Apple has not opened up with api to allow for VOIP over 3G, so there will be ways to make calls from the device.
If the second gen version has a webcam, it would make a terrific Skype "phone."
