I keep looking at my co-worker's 17" and coveting, but seriously, 15 is good for me. I must repeat that.
I am sad that when my new computer comes in it will need a new name. I've been tapping away at Cass(andra Cain) here for so long, and I love her. I will still have her, until she fails her final fail, but I'm going to have to break in a new girl. Don't know who. Currently it's either Martha Jones or Donna Noble. I'm torn. Oh, and also Martha Washington. But not that one. Her.
Maybe the new girl will just be Martha. That should cover a multitude.
And I'm grabbing an app I saw someone use called Smultron just because I liked the title. I'll work out what the hell I can do with it later.
My new laptop is Lucille, after Lucille 1 and 2 and also as homage to BB King.
Okay, I am WAY excited about how easy Windows 7 is.
As a mac snob, I'm surprised that I'm not gritting teeth yet. Glad I got the laptop with Win7 and not XP. The test will come traveling and how easy/hard it will be to log on to various networks.
ETA as for size, I got a 15.6 wide screen, and think it's plenty large. Thankfully it's not heavy.
I have to laugh at the whole "Mac snob" thing. My first computer was a PowerMac (1992) and EVERY single one of my computer-using friends/family/boyfriends mocked me mercilessly and continually for buying and using a "toy" instead of a computer. The only exception to the rule were my graphic artist friends, who used Apples. To be frank, it bugged the shit out of me.
Fast forward to 1999 and I had to learn PCs working at Oracle. I thought, "eh, this is okay." I bucked up and learned because it was my job. And then I kept buying used pc laptops (and an iMac for housemate) from firms that laid me off, and have been using pcs ever since. So all of you self-professed "Mac snobs" who didn't even freaking use one until iPods came around, I laugh at you.
I've been using Macs since the Mac 128 and Apples since the Apple II+. I've also been using PCs since the 8088 processor and had a CPM machine that was house in a case built from plywood that used an 8" floppy drive.
As for laptop screens I'm a total size queen. I adore my 17" with the HD screen. You can never have too much screen real estate. I now dream of adding a 30" Cinema display as a second monitor on the 27" iMac.
We had a first gen Mac, way back in 1984.
And, like Drew, we were using Apple IIs before that.
Know, I know you guys go way back. But I hear MacSnob every day from people who didn't discover them until iPods and iPhones.
I'm not a MacSnob. I did use Macs a lot during my undergrad studies, though (mostly from about 1999, really). I would love a Mac, but the prices are ridiculous. So we keep using PCs.
