Hey. New board.

Every time I've had my cable modem crap out on me - which happens with fair regularity - the Airport light has turned Yellow, not gone out completely. I'm pretty sure that even if the cable/DSL modem (which I assume is what this conversation means by router, since the airport express/extreme is itself a wireless router) isn't giving any internets, the wireless connection would still be available, it just wouldn't serve up anything more interesting than other computers on the same network.

I am a woman of various inclinations and only some of the time are they to burn everything down in frustration

vw, if you have Airport Utility (on one of their computers, maybe?) that can give you useful diagnostics.

I second Kristen, it wouldn't hurt to unplug the modem, and the Airport, and restart them both modem first. I seem to recall having to do that on occasion for problems that looked they were Airport-centric

Did that, and it did nothing. So, I'm stopping for the night. I'll try some more things in the morning. I'm zonked for now. Thanks, guys! At least I was trying the right things...

omnis, pursue. That's an order from a shy woman who can use M-16. - Shir

lets say I got a cheap-o PC laptop. What's the easiest way to copy my iTunes files over to it from my iMac. The mac is 10.4, the laptop is Win7. I can play stuff through shared library in iTunes when I am home. Alas, I will soon be away from home, and want to still play tunes. Thoughts? Ideas? Be gentle, I'm still learning my way around Windows.

Our wings are not tired

The latest version of iTunes should allow you to set up a home share setup where you can then import songs from one computer to the other. Give me a call if you need help on it.

I figured it out! Thanks for the clue of "home share". Currently importing nearly 13,000 tracks. Hmmm fun!

OK, is there a way to change the modifier key from cntl to alt, so it's the same thumb placement as my Mac?

ETAsk, Does Win7 need additional security? U-verse offers:

AT&T Internet Security Suite powered by McAfee®
This security service offers anti-virus and anti-spyware technology, and includes a firewall to protect what you value. The new security suite provides three great services for up to 10 PCs.

Or will that just junk up the machine? Or is AVG better? (sorry for the remedial Win questions. Hopefully I won't get too annoying).

ND, my better half needs to move his Itunes library from a PC to a Mac. If he does the method you describe, will it keep playlists and ratings?

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

More iTunes questions!

What's the easiest way to change the name of an iTunes library? Right now I have "Jessica Lastname's Music" on two computers, and one of them can't see the other on the network so I can't transfer music.

Is there any way to get the interface to revert to iTunes 8? I *loathe* the way iTunes 9 displays information in column view and miss the ease of being able to filter by artist/album/genre/etc.

I'm not sure what you mean, hasn't the display always been in columns?

But I did immediately change my view back to list view so it looked like previous versions. Sadly, that doesn't work for the Store. And I hate that they took away the shopping cart.

And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

There used to be a bar at the top with several columns so you could filter by various criteria - genre, artist, album, song name, etc. And then the items in your library that matched your selections would appear below.

Now it's just one sidebar and there's no easy way to just PLAY AN ALBUM - for that you have to go into the grid view and click on the album art.
