Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

That's the IP address for yahoo.com. So you can reach it, but for some reason your DNS isn't resolving yahoo.com to the IP address.

Is it the same DNS server on that machine as on one that works?

I'm kinda flailing for questions now, given you can get outside your network.

All is well that ends in pizza.

Is it XP? Check your Internet Options control panel, under the Connections tab, click "Lan Settings" make sure that "proxy" is not checked. If you removed viri/trojans, there may be artifacts left behind.

Worth a look.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

Suzi,

what if you change your DNS servers to google's as a test?

Back tattoos of the mother is that you are absolutely right - Ame

The machine that is acting up actually has 3 DNS Servers listed, one of which matches the only one on the working laptop.

Suzi, you can also set up your machine with static ip settings identical to your laptop, with a different IP address.

If the ip on the laptop is 192.168.1.46, make the other machine 192.168.1.99 or the like.

How do I change the ip? I can't find the proxy setting but I remember that it was unchecked when I had looked earlier.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

I have tried that a couple of time Le Nubian. I am shutting that computer down. It is hurting my brain and I have enough of a headache already. I'll try again tomorrow. Thanks all.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

What's your operating system? To manually set an IP address you want to change your network connections, but how you get there depends on your OS.

If you want to get an automatic renewal, you can type ipconfig /renew at the command prompt and see if that makes a different--but if rebooting didn't, this might not either.

How do I change the ip?

Go into Network Connections control panel. Find the wireless card. Right click on it, and select "Properties" then when you have a properties screen up, find "internet protocol tcpip", highlight it, select the button that says, "properties" In there you can change it to "Use the following ip address" and "use the following DNS server" and enter in the settings.

Click OK, and then Close when done.
