And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

If the backbone of the phone system switches to VOIP, then VOIP will be the protocol that landline telephone services are delivered on. It doesn't mean everyone suddenly has to use Skype as their primary phone.

Yeah, I've tried every suggestion I found online, and the iBook is resolutely staring back with its grim grey face.

So, I'll let the Genius Bar look at it tomorrow, but I'm thinking I'll be coming home with a new Macbook.

omnis, pursue. That's an order from a shy woman who can use M-16. - Shir

My concern with going all VOIP is it sidesteps the five 9's law (landlines must be operational 99.999% of the time). Brief write up on the thought here: [link]

Oooh, it's the display on my iBook. How did I find out? I moved it to try another login thing, and clonked the side of the screen accidentally, for lo, I am a klutz. The display changed from grey to black. Suspicious, I clonked it again, and it turned white.

Uh-oh, I thought, this looks like a display issue.

I clonked it again, and sure enough, the regular desktop appeared, but with things looking not quite right (as in, everything that's supposed to be white is hot pink, among other irregularities).

I backed up everything important (photos, comics, music, Quicken data), and I guess I'll still take it to the Genius Bar to see if it can be fixed easily/cheaply. And then decide what to do.

Compassionately intolerant

Yay for backing up! That's an awesome use of blunt force trauma.

The more I learn, the more I realize how little I know.

Percussive maintenance win!

I really have been wanting a new Macbook, because (1) new! shiny!; (b) more hard drive space; (iii) faster; (D) can burn DVDs; (5) the new Macbook Pros have a slot for an SD card, which is AWESOME.

But I'm also on the frugality train, so if it's fixable for not too much $, I'll get it fixed.
