I wonder if Stephen Hawking is mad he can't make money doing voices for things....
Buffistechnology 3: "Press Some Buttons, See What Happens."
Got a question about technology? Ask it here. Discussion of hardware, software, TiVos, multi-region DVDs, Windows, Macs, LINUX, hand-helds, iPods, anything tech related. Better than any helpdesk!
I would choose the dulcet tones of George Clooney, or Laurence Fishburne as Morpheus. I swear, if I could have the latter, I would buy a GPS tomorrow.
Once it arrives, check out this site for three additional voices. I like "Dr. Nightmare."
Cool, I'll have to check it out.
Okay, update on Egnyte (our file sharing site between my company and our partner in Europe) for those of you who asked. The problem with people not being able to see folders and files stemmed from an interesting bug in their system: it’s a bit too much to detail in a post, but one of the main problems seemed to stem from having any given individual in multiple groups. If s/he belonged to two groups, Group A and B for example, both of which were given access to a folder, and then Group A was denied access to that folder, the system was conflicted about the individuals’ rights; it didn’t know which group took precedence over the other.
So, after hours on the phone with Egnyte yesterday, and them doing a bunch of permissions-cleaning-up on the back end, the problem seems to be solved for now. They're working on fixing the bug, making the included group take precedence over the excluded group. But for now, I a just having to re-evaluate the members of all of the groups. No small feat, but MUCH better than having to choose a new vendor and do all of the migration over the holidays!
We also have an issue with the lastest Windows pushed out update on Dec 10, which caused me some panic this week, but that seems to be sorted out now with some work-arounds too. Yesterday morning I was greatly regreting how much IT-related crap there is in my job. But today I am back to feeling very positive about it all. In case you're interested, the Windows push out caused problems with using IE to navigate our "eCTDs"; the external links within pdfs weren't working. Our workaround is to disable Adobe Reader from using a broswer for navigating, and instead using only Adobe. Whew!
I have Google Voice™.
Is it catching?
I caved and bought myself a Chumby for Christmas. Despite the website saying they were back ordered until the 22nd, I just got an email saying it had shipped and I might receive it before the 25th.
My god, my Chumby just showed up. That wasn't even 24 hours. And shipping was free.
Do you love it? I had never heard of one until I Googled last night after your posting.
Well, I love their customer service, that's for sure! So far, it does a million more things than I'll use out of the gate, but the alarm clock settings are highly highly customisable, so I'm a happy puppy. And it will wake me up to Pandora radio, and show me Flickr photographs and weather forecasts. The laptop may be leaving my bed.
