Ah, got it. I switch back and forth so often these days I can't keep the "keys that do stuff" names straight in my head anymore.

I sometimes have to adjust when switching back and forth, too. Though these days I'm mostly Mac. I need to get my Windows machine running again, so I don't get too rusty. Maybe I should even finally install Vista.

And since I also have a Mac Mini not doing anything, maybe I should try to get an Ubuntu machine going again.

Don't install Vista, Sean. Windows 7 (which I've seen, as our IT director is running beta) trumps it. And it won't require Vista as a precursor for upgrade.

The minimum system requirements for Windows 7 are kinda steep though. I've been meaning to install the beta on one or two of my machines and I can't put it into my test machine until I increase the RAM.

I'm also running Vista on two of my machines and WinXP on the rest of them. Vista has been just fine on machines that are fast enough and with a good amount of memory. It seems to be lower spec'ed machines that choke on it.

"And to be clear, I am the hell. And the high water."

java, I thought Windows 7 did require Vista installation. I heard that on cnet 1-2 months ago, but maybe they had bad info.

I thought so too, but my IT guy told me otherwise. I'm on vacation now, but will confirm when back in office.

I've heard both - it wouldn't surprise me if MS has changed the requirements over the course of the beta testing.

Coding and Sleeping

I have a hard time believing that MS would require a Vista installation to upgrade to 7. I can see it being easier technically so that the betas may not have been upgradable from XP, but I would think in the actual release you'd be able to go from XP.

That's excellent! Sadly, my laptop (4-year-old [maybe 5, actually] iBook) is not up to spec for it.

Hmm. One more reason to get a new Macbook. (Plus, Apple is taunting me with the lure of "buy a new computer and get an iPod Touch free!")
