I've heard both - it wouldn't surprise me if MS has changed the requirements over the course of the beta testing.

This must made my Mac Mini a whole lot more useful: [link]
I have a hard time believing that MS would require a Vista installation to upgrade to 7. I can see it being easier technically so that the betas may not have been upgradable from XP, but I would think in the actual release you'd be able to go from XP.

That's excellent! Sadly, my laptop (4-year-old [maybe 5, actually] iBook) is not up to spec for it.
Hmm. One more reason to get a new Macbook. (Plus, Apple is taunting me with the lure of "buy a new computer and get an iPod Touch free!")
I'm running a traceroute on a client's FTP server (basically to prove to them that it really is NOT WORKING) and I've got 30 lines of *** so far, and it's still going.
How long will OSX keep trying before giving me a timeout message? I kind of want to go to lunch...
[eta: Went to lunch and it had timed out by the time I got back.]
Hey, meara, is it a wide flat slot? PCMCIA? Because a lot of the newer computers are coming with few or no slots of that nature. Or is it narrower like these expresscards? Those would probably be easier to find.
My cellular modem is USB for that reason; we needed it to work across an older laptop, and newer laptop, and a home-built desktop.
Or maybe look for an adapter?
I read about Google Chrome again and decided that it had been awhile and I'd try it again. I had my fling with Chrome, but like my fling with Opera and IE8, I always come back to Firefox in the end. There will be the times that Firefox will consume ungodly amounts of memory, but I just can't quit it.
It is a PC card, Liese. Sigh. that's what I was afraid of. Dang.
Maybe I can beg and plead for a change from work, for some...unknown reason. Hrm.
I don't know anything about them, but I understand there are adapters that would allow you to plug a PC card into a thinger that then plugs into your USB port. However, my initial foray on the web shows that a) they are expensive and b) they may be unwieldy for laptop use.
Not sure how I feel about this: New Mac clone maker to open retail store in Calif.
As a Mac lover, I think a lower entry point will help make the OS more accessible. As a shareholder, I don't want anything that could 'cheapen' the product.
I think, mostly, I'm pissed I don't live in LA area anymore to go check the store out on June 1st.
