"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Anybody see Maakies on Adult Swim last night? It was excellent. I missed the incredible architectural detail of Millionaire's drawings, but it was a completely undiluted transfer of his world. Emmett laughed his head off and declared it "Very disturbing!"

You know what I love about YouTube? You can find all those odd little animation pilots that never got off the ground. Amazing Screw On Head is gorgeous steampunk, and funny. You can find the Peter Bagge animation for Hate (kinda sucky) and there's an incredible Japanese animation of one of Jim Woodring's Frank strip.

There are also the original Maakies shorts that were done for SNL.

A turkey in every toilet -- only in America!

I've seen a DVD of that offered for sale on ebay.

An animated version of Jef Czekaj's "Grampa and Julie: Shark Hunters" has been in development for what feels like years now. Last I heard, the pilot was done.

Maakies is sitting on my DVR. I'll watch it tonight.

Nickelodeon, right?

I think so. I knew the production company, but can't remember the name -- I'd know it if I heard it -- it sounds Eastern European.

aka "The artist formerly known as Corwood Industries."

I watched Maakies last night on my computerator: you're right, David. That's a great cartoon, surprisingly a little more cleanly drawn than I expected.
