Wow, that breaks my heart. Such a talented guy. I used to trade tapes with him and Sarah back in the 90s when Emmett was little.
I never knew that Ta-Nehisi Coates was such a nerd.
Oh, yeah. He doesn't do it as often anymore, but he used to write a lot about comic books and playing D&D as a kid.
But in a genre where death is malleable, I think it's easy to miss how well certain characters work while dead, how they exert a gravity on the main story.
I think this point is true and Jean Grey and Jason Todd exerted more influence and gravity to their respective universes when they were dead.
I'd argue the same was true of Barry Allen.

At this point I think the only dead people left in the DC universe are the Waynes.
ETA: And Barry's mother. I forgot she had to die so he could be resurrected with a tragic back story.
