Mal: Well, look at this! Appears we got here just in the nick of time. What does that make us? Zoe: Big damn heroes, sir.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

Saladin Ahmed has been doing some amazing research on pre-Code comics, and he's finally written it up.

GS: If you had to choose between kicking evil in the head or the behind, which would you choose, and why? Minsc: I'm not sure I understand the question. I have two feet, do I not? You do not take a small plate when the feast of evil welcomes seconds.

An interesting analysis of the creation of Batman (the author theorizes Batman being a product of childhood trauma stems from Bob Kane's own childhood trauma.) [link]

This is one article where you should read the comments. Not that they’re great, but they’re saying the same thing I came here to say: Most of the aspects of Batman—including his origin story—were created by Bill Finger, not Kane.

Kane’s career was built on taking credit for other people’s work.

Seriously? Are there any Golden Age creators that didn't either rip someone off or get ripped off in return?

I was wondering whether you knew that, Kalshane! Because my reaction to your comment was Tom's reaction.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Seriously? Are there any Golden Age creators that didn't either rip someone off or get ripped off in return?

One reasons comics were held in such very low esteem as a medium was because they were so obviously derivative of things like the pulps. Just outright stealing the Fortress of Solitude from Doc Savage for Superman, or Batman's obvious debts to The Shadow and The Spider and Zorro other such dark pulp antiheroes.

But yes, ripping people off was extremely common. Kane is one of the most egregious examples though.

Saladin Ahmed has been finding a lot of those in his research. And early villain named Doctor Doom, a woman who makes web shooters and fights crime, a woman who basically Hulks out, and so on.
