Illyria: We cling to what is gone. Is there anything in this life but grief? Wesley: There's love. There's hope...for some. There's hope that you'll find something worthy...that your life will lead you to some joy...that after everything...you can still be surprised. Illyria: Is that enough? Is that enough to live on?

Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward.

Next month: Galactus vs Squirrel Girl! Fight!

So I got the ridiculously gigantic Walking Dead compendium because it was on sale, and I'd read the first few issues, and what the hell. It was on my doorstep when I got home.

...And I'm halfway through it now and am stopping for the night because whirr. It is a shame how shitty the TV show is, because the comic basically goes "ohshitohshit, awwwwheartwarmingmoment, oh FUCK." And the page-turning craziness makes it much easier to overlook the flaws.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Today is Jack Cole's birthday. I wrote a piece on him for Hilobrow.

Relatedly, here's a fantastic blog on Jack Cole's work that has dozens of rare scans.

Oh, god DAMN. DC's solicits for Justice League: Generation Lost are teasing that Blue Beetle is going to be killed: [link] >[link]

I could list all the reasons why I don't think it'll happen (DC wouldn't kill off another minority/DC wouldn't kill off another teen hero in a brutal fashion/DC wouldn't have Max Lord shoot ANOTHER Blue Beetle), but really, my reaction is just -- god DAMN.

Or it could be a Jossverse thing akin to S5 of Angel (and how Connor was handwaved into a different life), where Max Lord's ability to alter reality (or perception, or whatever it is he does) will mean that Beetle DOES die, but then it's un-done. Which is exactly the kind of cheap plot move I would expect from DC.

My love for the Jamie Reyes iteration of Blue Beetle is massive, and irrational. I really think if DC kills him off, I'm going to have to break up with comics. Seriously.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

I wonder how John Rogers feels about that.

I've been making flappy hands and aggrieved noises about it for the last 45 minutes. Gah.

(1) Scola, that's the best job listing you've ever posted for me!

(2) I couldn't take the job [because OF COURSE they'd hire me...ha!], because I'd walk around punching people in the head.

(3) I did make flappy hands of glee when I read it, though. That's an actual job opening! Awesome!
