The thing that stood out for me is that I never realized how influential Chris Ware has gotten, even in the mainstream.

Ha! I can't walk into the comics shop without bitching about Ware's pernicious influence on Clowes.

Well, Chris Ware has been perniciously influenced by Clowes' cynicism (nsm with the humor), so it all balances out.
