Maybe the school just really liked Dawn's Extracurriculars and took a GED and "life experience" as a bonus.
No to mention, Dawn did go from like 0(or infinity) to 16 in like a nanosecond.
Dawn's timeline (I think), we know she's 14 when she shows up:
Season 5 - Freshman in HS (Buffy has to go and tell her their mom died while she's in art class)
Season 6 - Sophmore in HS (first kiss and Sweet can't have her, she's only 15)
Season 7 - Junior in new SDHS
Season 8 (with 1.5 year gap) - finish off HS "off-screen", College freshman

SailAweigh: That timeline works really well, if you wank that when Dawn said she was a freshman in "All the Way," she was either lying or confused.
Dawn said she was a freshman in "All the Way"
So much for my crap memory. Obviously, it's time to start rewatching before I've forgotten what's her face's name. You know, the one with the funny bump on her nose?

Or munging it up based on a three-year high school following a three year junior high! (Which was my assumption.)
I have a hivemind question and I think this is place to ask it:
Is there a generalized term for the hero's guide? e.g. Yoda, Shredder, Obiwan, Alfred, Optimus Prime, Mr. Miyagi...In other words, the hero's hero.
Mentor?
