Other Media 2: It's Astounishing!
Discussion of comics, graphic novels, and more. Except for capes. No capes!

Think Anya and Tara singing backup together.
I finally picked up Astounishing today (what? It's a busy time of year). "What else have you been lying to me aobut?" Heh. Heh, heh, heh. That was awe. some. And what everyone else said. And thanks for that bit of comic book history, Victor, because that phrasing ("To me, my X-men.") made me tilt my head - and realize I was probably missing something historicalish.
I'm still kind of meh on Angel: AtF, but I am enjoying Connor. I don't think I like the Gunn story, and the soul thing. I'm tired of the soul/no soul thing and all of that.
Hmm, just finished Angel: AtF myself, and I disagree - I rather like Gunn still trying to be the good guy, but he can't quite do it (otherwise he wouldn't be snacking on people he rescued). I do like the Connor stuff as well. And I'm intrigued to see where they'll go with Illyria keeping Spike as a pet.
All in all, liked it better than issue 1. Still HATE the artwork though.
Oh, yeah, I meant to say, I was kind of amused by Spike as Illyria's pet. Speaking of Illyria, she must be kind of psyched to be back in a place more like what she was used to.
I've been buying Owen pairs of the Marvel Superhero Squad Action Figures and for Christmas, I got him Wolverine & Phoenix and Beast & Iceman. He got Iceman's name correct and was calling Beast "Monster Man." But then it went downhill when he called Wolverine, "Poopman."
I need to get Gambit & Rogue for myself.
Finally got Buffy #9--and there is definitely more to Buffy & Giles' estrangement beside this Faith thing. But I liked this storyline, especially for some reason.
As for A:AtF, I'm liking the plot more, I guess. But Spike as Hugh Hefner made me snort out loud. I like the Connor stuff but is it wrong that the telepathic fish gets the best lines?
I also picked up the HC of Mouse Guard, Fall 1152. It was so damned pretty and my dealer gave me a discount. I think I've single-handedly increased his sale volume by moving to town. I need to get Serenity: Better Days added to my pull.
Here's a wonderful take on the whole "Woman in the Refrigerator" issue.
Happy 85th birthday to Stan Lee!
