Other Media 2: It's Astounishing!
Discussion of comics, graphic novels, and more. Except for capes. No capes!
Please use spoiler font for new releases until after the weekend following release.
Wow, my frothing rage killed the thread. Next time I'll save the rant for lj. My apologies.
I'm just hoping people haven't gotten around to the Buffy yet (or the Angel - wouldn't mind discussing that) or something. 'Cause I thought the Buffy issue rocked.
BTW, per Buffy #9, when
Giles said Buffy wanted to have nothing to do with him, was that because of the Faith thing, or was that something that preceded this?
I definitely got the feeling it was the latter, but I don't think there's been anything canon in the series so far to indicate that apart from
his absence.
I haven't been able to pick up either yet, and it's kind of killing me.
No, we're all mesmermized by your sexy wrath.
Love me, despair, you know the deal.
Frankenbuddha, I believe you are correct. Buffy was
pissed that Giles didn't keep her in the loop,
and you know how sensitive she is
when it comes to all things Faith.
I think that "Feels like mine; must be yours"* was one of the most wryly sad lines in all of BtVS.
* quoted from memory
...one of the most wryly sad lines in all of BtVS.
It really was.
"It's old, it's strong, and...it feels like it's mine. I guess that means it's yours."
Okay, I'm only occasional in this thread, but do we know about this?
I know only because sumi posted a link in the Firefly thread. Already talked to my comics guy today. Can't wait!
I got my Buffy today, which I loved - I assume
we'll see more Faith and Giles eventually, and that just rocks.
And I liked seeing
the Mayor again! Even if only in flashbacks.
I liked Angel:AtF well enough to keep reading. I'm a little confused by
Wesley's contract.
What made you predict that, smonster? Something from the show? I was happy to see
Connor. I liked the Connor we got to see there at the end of the show.
And there was some funny. Maybe a little too, too at times, but...
I also picked up the first three issues of The Umbrella Academy. Looking forward to reading those.
Argh, I meant to pick up the new
Buffy
today. Not sure if I feel like heading back out into the freezing rain tonight.
I did pick up the first
Angel
issue and was distinctly unimpressed. I barely recognized any of the characters, either in the artwork or in the writing, and, like smonster, was bothered by
Gunn coming onto the women he was ostensibly rescuing. I guess that should have been a tip-off that he was eeeeevil? But I'm not really psyched about that plot point either.
I might cancel my order. I never really truly loved
Angel
the same way I loved
Buffy,
so I don't feel the need to keep reading for the characters if the story/writing/art/etc. isn't very good.
Very excited about the
Firefly
comic news, though!
I wasn't nuts about the artwork for Angel:AtF, either. As for the story, I'm waiting for it to develop. I wasn't gaga for the first issue in the Buffy S8 arc, either. That, however, has really grown on me.
I loved the last Faith arc, minus Buffy's so totally negative reaction. Despite the ""It's old, it's strong, and...it feels like it's mine. I guess that means it's yours", I felt Buffy showed Faith in Chosen that she felt Faith was a worthy succesor. She threw the scythe to Faith, not to anyone else, when she thought she was done for. That said a lot to me. But I adored the Steed/Peelness of the arc, I want more. Hee. I feel the biggest problem we have right now is backstory of the missing months from the end of TV season 7 to the start of comics S8. I want resolution on giant Dawn, I want to know why she's so buddy/buddy with Willow, when I don't think season 7 did anything to show Willow/Dawn bonding of any type. I want to know why
Buffy and Giles are on the outs. (Not sure that needs whitefont, I don't remember if it's been mentioned earlier, so better safe than sorry.)
There's still too much stuff missing, in my mind. And I don't know how much of that Joss intends the season 8 comics to give us. Still, overall, I'm enjoying it. It's just nice to see the gang working together, again.
Per the thread header, it's after the weekend following release, so whitefont is not necessary.
Thanks, Jon. I don't pick up my comics on a weekly basis, so I'm not always sure if what I'm reading is one week old or three!
