"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Hec! Help! I have three tracks in my iTunes that I can't classify properly. They say they're from the album "The Famous 500," but Google doesn't think that album exists. I don't remember where I got them, so I can't tell if they were from a compilation of sorts. They are:

Well, they could be from any compilation I guess but Google doesn't recognize that name. I can tell you the albums they were originally on.

White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane

Surrealistic Pillow

Plynth (Water Down The Drain) by Jeff Beck

Beck-Ola

Down By The River by Neil Young on discs 11, 13, and 15 respectively.

Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere

Oh, they seem to be from the "500 Songs That Shaped Rock" list compiled by the curator at the Rock and Roll Hall of fame.

"I keep to a strict diet of ill-advised enthusiasm and heartfelt regret." Leigh Bardugo

except, let's be honest, I don't really mean that. I am going to do a serious clean sweep soon. just not yet.

Sometimes I trip on how happy we could be.

See, if the 80 mile drive and 2 flights of stairs didn't already suffice, I'd regard hiding the visiting guy's clothes so he has to wander out into the parents' view in his underwear (assuming he has any) as an excellent way to head off future unannounced parental visits.

It was actually more of a wacky mixup. I thought that, over Christmas, my mother had said they "might" come down on New Year's Day. I never got confirmation, so I figured it was off. She thought she had told me they would be coming down. And then I still didn't realize that the voicemail from Connecticut meant they were actually on the way. Oops.

So, I just started playing sudoku, when I realized it's finally after 5! I can leave without concern!

Right on.

Let me state, for the record, how ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS it is that even as a salaried employee, I have to sit here and waste time.

Yo Hec. Has Malinda received any mail recently?

From you? I don't know. JZ would know. It's all a blur to me.

Allyson, I'd just be careful not to overcrook or dry out the pork loin cooking it that way. You don't want to lose all the delicious piggy juiciness!

JZ - Dec 21, 2006 12:17:21 pm PST #7566 of 10007
See? I gave everybody here an opportunity to tell me what a bad person I am and nobody did, because I fuckin' rule.

Doesn't that mean it will go out for delivery tomorrow?

God knows. The UPS tracking website tells me that it's still sitting in Oakland, but that it's also on schedule for delivery today. I think I shall console myself for the mostly wasted day by making a ton of cookie dough. Some of which may actually at some future point become cookies. Possibly.

Yo Hec. Has Malinda received any mail recently?

eta: OMG, she got a onesie which was made of awesome last week -- or maybe two weeks ago? It's all a blur to me too. Please accept my shamefaced thanks.

Aw, fuck. Now she's crying again. So much for the cookie dough.

Well not canonically, no, but this is transformative fiction.

Heh, Hec. You are correct. Seems I snagged them from Shrift.

My collection is more than a little random.

Found out I don't have arthritis! Yay. That what looks like arthritis is ligament scars. Boo. Need to force the finger straight--I can go see a hand doc and have him do it, but I think I'll just load up on pain meds and do it myself on a slow day.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Of course, "What's Opera, Doc?" was number one.
