"You can't put a price on the joy of not giving a shit." -Zenkitty

Oh, today:

Random Dude: 62? 62? Is that 62?
Me: Bzuh?
Random Dude: Well thanks for telling me!
Me: What the hell are you talking about?

That's the conversation I had upon getting off my bus this morning. Pre-coffee.

Dear Random Dude,

I did not ride bus #62. I had no idea it was behind my bus until I turned around to yell at you for being a dick. It was snowing very hard and I was trying not to fall on my ass, and having you get in my face and accuse me of withholding information about your precious bus was not the way I wanted to start my morning.

Don't be an asshat.

sincerely,
shrift

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

A few more of those wouldn't be a bad thing. Except it's not murder, it's self-defense. Interesting choice of words.

My thought exactly. Killing your kidnapper when he's pursuing you after you escaped is hardly murder. Maybe sneaking back much later and killing him in revenge would be, though even then I'd argue that it might be justifiable and certainly understandable.

Today will be a good day, won't it?

It's Friday, so there's a start. I have to do end-of-month crap, but it is mindless and not too tedious. There is an A&W cheeseburger in my future. I set my vcr to tape GA when it came on at 1 AY EM!!@ this morning and I will watch that tonight. My cats are cute.

So yes, today will be a good day.

Greece's financial crisis threatens to take down all of Western civilization - a civilization they themselves founded. A rather tragic irony - which is something they also invented. - Jon Stewart

The power wielded against people is not just the exploitive gov't, but often their own cultural practices.

It's exploitation of the poor and powerless nonetheless. This isn't an ongoing danger for the daughters of the wealthy anywhere and likely never has been on any noteworthy scale.

When women (and girls) have the ability to contribute economically to the survival of their families with something besides their hymens their lives improve. You don't get sold to a brothel to feed your siblings when you're all in school and eating there. A family doesn't embrace the "honor" of being repeated rape by a "holy" man if she's going to end up with a job at a call center. Even a woman locked behind walls begins to earn clout in her community if she has a loom and a market for her goods... and that woman has far more ability to say "no" to her daughter being genitally maimed if she's paying the mortgage. And the daughter doesn't become a unmarried unmaimed enormous financial hardship if SHE has the ability to pay the mortgage.

None of this is as glamorous or immediate as an armed invasion... but it actually works.
