I got a notice today from a debt collector. Regarding a bill related to my kidney stone in August. For a bill that I never received.

About ten different entities have billed me regarding my ER visit and follow-ups. I have no idea which one this is about. I have no record of any bill in the amount given.

This isn't the only bill of mine that got screwed up. I'm pretty sure that I got charged my deductible twice, so I'm out an extra $400.

I hate this bullshit. Hate. Hate. Hate. Every single fucking time I visit the hospital my bill gets screwed up in some way.

Oh Tom, I'm sorry. My advice (I used to work in hospital billing yonks ago), call the hospital billing office from which the bill would have originated, before it was turned over to the collection agency. Put on your stompy feet, and refuse to take no for an answer. No matter what they tell you, they can call the debt back from the collection agency, and rebill you. They won't want to. They don't like to. But they can. If you have to, threaten to call the Attorney General's office, and report them for unfair billing practices.

Scola! Talk to your benefits person at work and beg ask for an intervention. This flavor of bullshit is common where hospitals and insurance companies fight for the right to screw you over. Drug companies stand off to the side and and laugh and point and collect mad cash.

We're watching a lot of Avatar this weekend. I made Emmett leave the house. We took a tennis ball, because that is essential for all of our walks. (There's much bouncing off walls and overhead and behind the back and between the legs throwing and catching going on.) The rule was: ten dog walk. Emmett couldn't go home until he had stopped and petted ten dogs. Included within that number was: two Cavalier King James Spaniels (though not Hypno-Pup), a Gordon Setter / Basset mixed, chihuahua puppy, a very affectionate scruffily faced mid sized dog that got all happy and did The Lean of Dog Affection.
