For the second time this year, someone at work is circulating a sympathy card for the death of someone's pet. I totally appreciate the sentiment, and I will be very sad when my cats die. I love kitties, but this is too much, even for me.

Why do Americans hate dollar coins?
It's this:
"As long as we have the paper currency out there, dollar coins will never be successful," Gillis said. "We're going to have to discard the $1 bill or mass produce so many of these coins so they'll be out there at retailers."
They've got to phase out the dollar bills before the coins will really catch on. Most people will always choose what they're used to over the new thing.

I guess you start spending when your pockets get heavy. Also, because there are two dollar coins in regular circulation, you don't end up with a tonne of singles.
