Thank you Trudy for posting a link to this in Beep Me. I was just reading through threads this morning, came across the wake suggestion in Bureacracy, and was very confused, so I went striaght to Beep Me.
I have little to say that has not been said by people more eloquent than I am, upthread, but my condolances to Kimi and Seamus and Seamus's wife. Gus's wit and humor will be greatly missed here on this board.
Kimi, thank you for letting us know. I'm so sorry for your loss. I don't do scotch, but I shall fly a kite in memory of Gus. Damn, what a loss.
Welcome 2007. Let's do better this year, ok?
I just logged on a few minutes ago and I was so sad to read about Gus. Although we spoke a few times and posted together frequently, I never knew where the weremonkey name came from. It's funny what you can not know online.
My first interaction with Gus had something to do with calling him good looking. I don't remember the details anymore, but he was funny. I am sad that we have lost him and so sorry for the loss kimi and the rest of his family are undergoing.
What appliance will be played by Brad Pitt?
Now where's Trudy when you need her?
Kimi, please accept my condolences along with everyone else's on your loss. Gus was a very special man, and we were so lucky to have him come play with us on this board. Thank you so much for coming yourself to tell us he is gone. You, Seamus and his wife will be in my thoughts.
Just saw the news - I'm shocked and saddened, and reminded by all the quotes of what a fantastic and all-round
buffista-ish
person Gus was from the moment he wandered into these parts. We're all better for having known him. Kimi, thank you, and my love to the whole family.
I feel weird and ashamed to post about not-Gus, but... Sean, you and S. should totally come visit, and share some single malt with us, and do some baby-admiring. I don't think you'll be betraying your deep love of Em by doing so -- now that she and Lily are both solidly in toddler/little kid territory, the TCBITW, West Coast Division, title is once again open. We need an objective judge (Zmayhem may be just the smallest bit biased).
Also, she was read to last night, in an attempt at distraction from Gus sadness, and it turns out that she is a genius at being read to. The book was
Peter Rabbit
(a gift from Cass's future intended), not a tale generally known for its gripping and suspenseful narrative, but she was boggling and astonished and OMGWTFing at every page. "Oh noes! A shoe amongst the potatoes! The rake! Peter no no Peter look out MR. MCGREGOR'S SIEVE!" So immensely satisfying.
I am feeling, right now, so lucky to have been able to meet Gus here. Goodbye, Weremonkey. Have fun blowing minds in the world to come.

Ah Grasshopper, you do not need me for that one.

Ah, do I know how to
pick swoop in and steal them or what?
Now I would like to see Matilda being read to as well. Boggled, mesmerized babies are fun.
My attempt at a nap is being less than napful.
