Oh, god. Thanks for telling us, kimi, I'm sure it's difficult but we appreciate you letting us know. I'm crying at half-six in the morning on a new year, fantastic way to go off to France, but I'll be thinking of Gus on the journey. To you, Gus, wherever you are.
Happy new year, everyone.
Happy New Year, SA. Have fun storming the Gauls.
Mang (to quote Jesse), we had some interesting discussions in Natter 9 (when Gus delurked). We were all disaffected by the tone in the show threads (remember show threads?) and cultural shifts and....Well, we talked a lot about it.
eta:
Heh. Also...we argued about the serial comma. No, really.
also eta:
::pout::
Also, Betsy and ita weren't having multiple migraines every week.
whoa eta:
...and when Schmoker showed up. Wow. That was a world ago.
David, I am down in San Jose now, after having spent a couple of days with family in SF. I only just learned about Gus tonight, but I find myself wishing I had at least one more day up in the City so I could have a mini wake with you and JZ, and maybe a few other beloved 'Ffistas.
I think it would be comforting to see you and meet beautiful Matilda.

She's supercute!
Also, we have whiskey.
Hey, we're here all year. Maybe longer. Swing on by.
I, too, have scotch. I thought I was done for the night, until I came in here and heard about Gus. kimi, thank you so much for letting us know. He was such fun to post with and I always looked forward to his late night runs through the Firefly thread when you were over in Europe. Damn, I'm going to miss him.
Hey, we're here all year. Maybe longer. Swing on by.
We're hitting the road back to LA first thing in the morning, but we may have to arrange another trip up to the Bay Area very soon. Very very soon.
Possibly by February at the latest, as S has a friend up here who will be having a big Six-O birthday party around then.
Oh, and as I just realized you might be inviting us up tonight, I should mention that we're babysitting my beautiful, slightly-less-than-two-years-old nephew while my sister and BiL are at a NYE thing.
Leaving him behind, or dragging him off to a friend's house would possibly not endear us to my sis.
February's good, Sean. Anytime we can see you.
Natter 9 is interesting.

"I love England - not for Churchill but for rock and roll and Virginia Woolf."
Shawn, everything about Farscape is great except the music.
Emmett and I went down by the water toward the foot of the Bay Bridge. There's a place where you can go down concrete steps right into the water and he's utterly fascinated by the ocean being Right There.
His observations on natural phenomena:
Emmett: I know what made the sky.
Me: What's that?
Emmett: Water. Water made the sky. Water just made itself because it's water. [thoughtful pause] People make soap. That's where soap comes from.

I placed a bet on a horse named “Yield to Maturity”, which seemed appropriate because it’s something that people are always urging me to do. –Dave Barry

That's beautiful. He's determined a fundamental element. He could be a pre-Socratic philosopher!
By the teen years he'll probably be up to the Scholastics. Expect some truly tortuous arguments as to why he should get to borrow the car on the weekend.

I believe you. Um, 'scapers, I'm dying to go through all the eps, you know, but can you guys recommend the skippable ones? Cuz that's like a hundred hours of television to get through.

I'll mention this to him tomorrow. I promise you he will snort. Usually I try to explain the real science behind his speculations but he wasn't all that wrong here. People do make soap.

Hey! Did I miss all the Names Natter? Because I love me some Names Natter!
I should NOT be here. SO MUCH WORK TO DO (tomorrow).
But, I have a great names story. My DH's grandmother was named Marian Gertrude, which I think is a beautiful name. She married the eldest son, the younger son was already married. Her MIL (DH's great-grandmother) was pissed that elder son, who was OBVIOUSLY supposed to stay unmarried and support her the rest of her life, didn't like Marian Gertrude. The younger son's wife was also named Marian, so evil GGma said "We can't have two Marians! We'll call you ... Gertie." And so it was.
I loved her dearly. She and I would talk about sewing and when she died DH's family gave me all of her sewing stuff. I use buttons from her stash all the time and think of her fondly. Also, we were the same size so I use her patterns. What a dear woman. But I wish I could have kicked evil GGMa in the shins.

Uh, Grandparents: Henry Crawford and Prudence Azalea, Ivan and Florence.
Emmett would've been Azalea if he was a girl (pronounced Aza-Lee, southern styley).
