EM is really rattled, kind of in shock. I had to give her a self-defense pep talk. "If it happens it'll probably happen between your car and the apartment so be ready. Have your phone in one hand and keys in the other. Call 911 immediately and be conscious about reporting your address. Try to get back to the car and lock the doors. Scream. Fight like a crazy weasel."
She does have the capacity for crazy weasel fighting, though. She's small but can flip out like a mammal. (In her teen years in NYC, she once jumped on the back of a creepy movie theater gropey guy, and pounded on his head all the way into the lobby.)

I don't think it would be any fair to suggest that same sex couples wait for those benefits until other non-traditional couples (and why stop with couples) get them.
I don't think this is what I was suggesting. Rather, I meant to suggest that there was very little fair in the whole situation. That said, I really don't think it's more not fair for one group than the other, and yeah, I kinda think that universal health care is a good idea.
