Yes, it's terribly simple. The good guys are always stalwart and true, the bad guys are easily distinguished by their pointy horns or black hats, and, uh, we always defeat them and save the day. No one ever dies, and everybody lives happily ever after.

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

I have a couple of people like that, but I don't consider that really cutting them off, just not really making an effort to keep up with them. Those I wouldn't mind hearing from.

Shit's all sorts of different now.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DJ!!

I've had to cut people out of my life. And there are others that I would like to cut out of my life, but for other reasons, can't. I just limit my contact with them as much as possible. It just gets to a point where if the contributions to my life are more negative than positive, there's no reason to keep that negativity in my life. Sucks.

Do you ever get the impression that those people see a positive for themselves in the relationship--and more than a selfish positive, such as "I love her, she's such a wonderful audience for my egomania"? I suspect there's a fine line between actively trying to maintain communication and being perceived as a stalker.

Not Aimee, but yeah, I think those people think the relationship is a positive one for them, though it probably is selfish even if they don't think of it that way.

Most defintely, connie. I imagine if I were to cut off communication with one person right now, they would not understand and it would be completely out fo the blue. "But...but...but..." And the thing is, I don't think that they would ever see the other side.

This. I'm sure this person thinks I'm being completely unreasonable. I say don't do this, it will hurt me. Then you do it- strike one, you lie to me about it-strike two, you let me find out you did it in the most painful way possible-strike three. Game over. There's other issues too, it's just that one thing that pushed it too far, but I'm sure she thinks that I just freaked out about something that's no big.

No ofense to those of us who are with the ovaries and whatnot, but there was a VERY good reason most my friends in high school and college were guys.
