It apparently chewed through the extension cord on which the whole polling place was operating.

I find this oddly amusing.
At Engine House No. 52 on Woodbrook Avenue in Northwest Baltimore, volunteers had plugged all of the voting machines into a power strip, but when they added a clock to the line, it sparked a small fire. The flames were contained and the machines survived.

In most elections, ''State Issue 1'' is something highly significant and its outcome closely watched. However, in Ohio today, Issue 1 doesn't count, literally.
It's prominently posted on the voting machines that the votes don't count.

My polling place is weird. First, it's not in the lobby of my building, the way it was in LA. (What is up with that?) Also, there has been a big to do about the new electronic voting machines, and how they would give you paper ballots if they really truly had to, but they would rather not.
My polling place had one machine and 8 paper ballot tables.
