Because books.

I still love Def Leppard. If "Pour Some Sugar On Me" comes on the radio, you bet I'm turning it up. And singing along.

Thrive to spite them

Def Leppard was the first "real" concert I went to see (previously I'd seen Sandi Patti at the same civic center, but that doesnt' count). My brother and I went and Mom's best friend (who is 10 yrs younger and much hipper back then) took us. It was a lot of fun and Queensryche opened for them. Later on I saw Tesla and Metallica.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

You people are reminding me why I tried really hard to only listen to songs recorded before 1970 once the 80's really started rocking. With some occasional exceptions for late New Wave/early Alternative.

Punishingly Intricate

Def Leppard was the first "real" concert I went to see

The drummer in my friends' band that also played at the Hate the 80s--The Metal Years event we did this weekend stuffed his one arm in his shirt while they played a couple of Def Leppard songs. That's commitment. It was AWESOME.

Have any of ya'll seen Heavy Metal Parking Lot ? Best documentary ever. One of the filmmakers and a couple of the guys from the film were there on Saturday too. PRIEST RULES!

Yeah, I felt that way once. Boy was I shocked when it turned out it had never sucked in the first place. Sorry Theo. I think it was the "Hot Stuff" scene at the dole queue in THE FULL MONTY that finally made me say "Uncle!"

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

First real concert I went to was Kansas. Not too many bands came to Green Bay, which was the closest venue....

If you're going through hell/keep on going/don't slow down/keep your fear from showing/you might be gone/'fore the devil even knows you're there

Thanks for the website, ChiKat, that should do me.

vanguard of the socialist Hollywood liberal homosexualist agenda

I wanna be in the Buffista band...

In highschool, I was in an anti-drugs-and-drinking group, and we had this sketch that featured Total Eclipse. Did it all. the. time. Evil stabby reaction to that song, though if I can manage to leave it on for more than a minute, I usually start singing along.

Ahh, anti-drinking. So glad I got out of that phase. Anyone want to pass me a mojito?

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

First real venue concert was Talking Heads on their last tour (the one that STOP MAKING SENSE documents).

My second, for reasons I still can't recall (probably the weed) was The Moody Blues, who were atrocious.

Of course, it didn't help them sound any better that the opening act was a guitar trio from Texas called Stevie Ray Vaughn and Double Trouble. Who I'd actually heard of because Vaughn had played on "Let's Dance".

Now tagless for your comfort.

I just put the kids down for their naps and finally managed to grab some lunch for myself. Two fudge brownies and left over crab Rangoon. I'm a nutritionist's worst nightmare.

I'm so glad I had sister 10 years older than me in the 80s. I had a broad musical education in the Stones, the Beatles and Simon & Garfunkel before moving into 80s arena rock. My brother is six years older than me and he handled the heavy metal section. My dad took care of classic country and bluegrass. I delved into alternative and punk on my own in middle school.

The only music my childhood lacked, sadly, was any decent classical music.
