And then Ortus came and said "It's Ortin' time" and they all Orted off into the sunset

God, even in six words Stephen Baxter sucks. Remind me again why his books keep getting published?

Because books.

Will this do (lazy writer asked)? - Ken MacLeod

Oh, I like this one, too.

Have people heard of the new Richard Dawkins book, The God Delusion? It's gotten a lot of attention (but I don't think I need to buy it).
Oh yeah. I may ask for it for Xmas. (No, really.) Did you see that "new atheism" piece in Wired? It had some interesting parts, although it suffered a bit from the "all journalism must now be as much about the writer as the subject" problem.

I might just be bitter that they didn't even mention Sock.

while I have the absolutely hilraious CATCHING TROUBLE short, the host segment where they hunt and abuse "The Great White Ross" isn't there. Keep your tapes people

You can get DVDs of complete episodes from friendly MiSTies for a fairly modest fee. Which is another thing I need to think about getting for Xmas.

I look more rad than Lutheranism

DUDE!

I so need Eddie tonight.

I'm going to listen to Izzard right now!

I folded and put away laundry last night (and it was 2+ baskets' worth of laundry, some of which had been sitting in the basket on my bedroom floor since before summer -- it was cool-weather clothes). My incentive to stay in my bedroom and put it all away?

Glorious in the laptop. And the whole computer bit at the end? Just as funny as Shrift remembers.

Sir, it's not an offence to let your cat eat your bacon. Okay? And we don't arrest cats, I'm very sorry.

Yeah. ITA.

I might just be bitter that they didn't even mention Sock.

What's that? (My first reaction was that you're refering to my cat Señor Sock, but probably not, huh? ION, I need more caffeine.)

Strega - Oct 25, 2006 6:32:34 am PDT #5513 of 10001

I definitely need more caffeine. Sock is Penn Jillette's novel from... a year or two ago? I think. It's sort of a mystery narrated by a sock monkey. But only sort of. It's quite funny if you enjoy random song lyrics and angry screeds. Which I do!

"This bar smells like kerosene and stripper tears."

So... Benchmarks are not the same as timelines, and we'll win the war through the power of positive thinking. The president won't answer hypotheticals which are posited situations which do not fit his positive thinking, but saying everything will be fine against all evidence is fine.

Oooh, his jokes are not going over well.

I’d be lying if I didn’t say that I miss them all tonight…

Ah, good times, good times. SUCH a fun trip....

Oh, man. YES!

YES!

I think...

TOTALLY. Man, that was a fun trip. And Lee? If we go to the Castro this weekend, I'm putting a GPS tracker on you.

Happy birthday Brenda!!!

Happy belated to Kate P and RLiz!

Rewatched Eddie Izzard's "Dressed to Circle" (the one entirely in French) the other night - still fucking funny.

It's the Darth Vader at the Death Star cafeteria -- in French -- that makes me lose it every time.
