sj, I can't even imagine what I would have said to that woman. All I can picture is my jaw dropping.
Books are the one thing I will always buy for the kids. That used to be a treat when Jake was a toddler -- we'd walk downtown on a nice day, eat lunch at a little cafe, and go to the bookstore.
Orally's on Oprah? Eww. She talks to everybody, now.
But I could get the love back if she asks him about "Falafel"(/Countdown partisan)
(Hee...I just attacked someone with hummus.)
ETA: Least favorite parent book thing "Don't touch that. It's bad; it's dirty."
The only thing that was bad about always reading in the car - after I got my driver's license I kept getting lost in my home town, that I had lived in for 15 years.
Well, call me a mean mom, but I try not to buy CJ or K-Bug too many books any more.
CJ has such a huge collection that he has not read, but is working his way through.
K-Bug is too voracious of a reader (for me to afford to keep up with book purchases). I keep reminding them both about this fantastic place called the LIBRARY. They actually let you read for FREE. Shocking. Utterly shocking, I tell you.
I can understand with older kids like yours Suzi. They can and should use the library.

Choose library! But why not with toddlers, too?
Ok, I'm a little annoyed at this part of a craigslist ad for an apartment:
Dogs only allowed if somebody is home all day to take them out. Please don't ask if you are a working dog parent, doggies just can't be expected to hold it that long.
Um, excuse me? But yeah - they can. And my dog? Has been left at home for 6+ hours everyday with no accidents for about 5 years now.
Not sure why it irritates me so much, but it does.
Well, with K-Bug, I can toss the car keys at her and tell her to haul her own tush to the library. More difficult to do that with a toddler.
I think she was talking about instilling reading habits?
Shit... we lost the library card. Should replace.

More this. I went with my parents just about every week to the library. They're both readers so they needed books to keep themselves happy, and I think it was grand that they could tell us we could take home as many library books as we wanted.
