Bwah ha ha. Nice burn, Corwood. reminds me of a Peter B.-David Chase interview on one of the Sopranos discs. Eventually Chase had this look like "It's hard to talk with you being up my butt this way," which I could follow, though there were parts of the conversation that I could not, but the director missed completely. Sounds like Toblowsky is a bit of a Jarry, in real life.

Awesome! I'm more familiar with Bogdy's multi-year fellatio of Orson Welles, but I'm sure the effect is the same. I even have a book-length interview between B & the big man! Here's what it reads like:

PB: "Given the brilliance of The Lady From Shanghai's hall of mirrors section, which I, myself, attempted to somewhat replicate by suggestion in the early part of The Last Picture Show, which I, myself, directed, albeit with a conscious and most pointed attempt to keep in mind my forebearers, of whom Orson Welles is most prominent, but among many, some of whom we should consider friends, friends within that illustrious pack, have I ever mentioned that I am friends with Orson Welles, or have I mentioned that he regularly dines with me and we share catty bon mots about Gallo wines and fish sticks and Renoir?"

OW: "I am Orson Welles."

PB: "Delightful."

That is a perfect rendition Corwood!

I've seen a clip where PB gets completely stonewalled by John Ford, who clearly suffered no ass kissing. It was brilliant. (found, by the by in my favorite Brit docu about cinema featuring Scorcese talking about his passion for film and defacing library books.)

PB was fucking crushed when Chase failed to go for his Roman comparisions, Livia being Caesar's(?) mother's name...something like that...or was it Claudius' mother's name? Anyway, Chase says a bunch of times that it's accidental, that it was a name in his own family as well and he never really intended for there to be much of a classical call-back, but Bogdonavich is enamored of his own "catch" and really beats the horse, failing to notice that Chase's responses are getting downright terse.(Chase isn't really a great interview anyway, all due respect intended...every time I've heard him give one, it's like he's filling out forms at the dentist. I wonder who thought putting them together would be a good idea.)

This lovely 3 disk set makes me drunk with glee every time I watch it. Marty loves movies like nobody else loves movies.

He talks about his influences, the indigineous American movie genres (gangster, western, musical), shows clips from things I'd never heard of and many I have...talks about the various roles of directors (smuggler, iconoclast, etc.)

I must warn you, though, the Ford interview is extremely short, and a meer speck in the joy.

I'd absolutely love to hear what you thought of it.

I have to say, I love documentaries...well made docs...for a lot of reasons.

Here is another that sends me into fits of joy. It has also been released as "2. Out of Ireland - The Hit Songs & Artists of Irish Music (From a Whisper to a Scream) " Much less interesting than the original, but whatev.

The jousting between Bono and Geldof is charming and the progressive history of modern Irish music (50s forward) is delightful.

I see now that I should write a doc recommendation column or something because I'm suddenly flooded with "And THIS one is great because..." thoughts.

I'm off to pet my copy of 1 Giant Leap. Awesome music, stunning visuals, great thinkers...

How come the details at Amazon say it's a 2 disk set?

Because I'm addlebrained. It is a 3 part series on 2 disks. See? Drunk!

In whatever form you can find it, it's fan-tas-teek.
