That is a perfect rendition Corwood!
I've seen a clip where PB gets completely stonewalled by John Ford, who clearly suffered no ass kissing. It was brilliant. (found, by the by in my favorite Brit docu about cinema featuring Scorcese talking about his passion for film and defacing library books.)

What is this documentary? I must see it now!
PB was fucking crushed when Chase failed to go for his Roman comparisions, Livia being Caesar's(?) mother's name...something like that...or was it Claudius' mother's name? Anyway, Chase says a bunch of times that it's accidental, that it was a name in his own family as well and he never really intended for there to be much of a classical call-back, but Bogdonavich is enamored of his own "catch" and really beats the horse, failing to notice that Chase's responses are getting downright terse.(Chase isn't really a great interview anyway, all due respect intended...every time I've heard him give one, it's like he's filling out forms at the dentist. I wonder who thought putting them together would be a good idea.)

This lovely 3 disk set makes me drunk with glee every time I watch it. Marty loves movies like nobody else loves movies.
He talks about his influences, the indigineous American movie genres (gangster, western, musical), shows clips from things I'd never heard of and many I have...talks about the various roles of directors (smuggler, iconoclast, etc.)
I must warn you, though, the Ford interview is extremely short, and a meer speck in the joy.
I'd absolutely love to hear what you thought of it.
I have to say, I love documentaries...well made docs...for a lot of reasons.
Here is another that sends me into fits of joy. It has also been released as "2.
Out of Ireland - The Hit Songs & Artists of Irish Music (From a Whisper to a Scream) " Much less interesting than the original, but whatev.
The jousting between Bono and Geldof is charming and the progressive history of modern Irish music (50s forward) is delightful.
I see now that I should write a doc recommendation column or something because I'm suddenly flooded with "And THIS one is great because..." thoughts.
I'm off to pet my copy of 1 Giant Leap. Awesome music, stunning visuals, great thinkers...

I've seen parts of this documentary and it really made me want to see more.

Oh, I know (at least the bits I saw of it). I meant to tape it. I memfault why I didn't, but something frelled up that plan. Once I'd completely missed the first episode, I decided, after seeing bits of the second (I think) that I'd justwait for the inevitable DVD.
Then I forgot about it.
