I just looked it up, it's in Muskoka Lakes, which I accidentally drove through one time on the way to my cottage when I took a wrong turn north of Barrie! (So I was right about the view, but also all of rural Ontario looks like that.)

The show had Shane starting his "performance diet" much earlier than in the books, which also meant that the only times we see Shane eating without worrying about carbs are with Ilya -- the tuna melt, and then the burgers he makes at the cottage, and then he actually eats pasta after they talk to his parents.

I liked the scene they added with Yuna and Shane talking to each other outside. I wonder what Ilya and David were talking about inside during that scene.
