"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

Nope, I'm going to have to catch up on it later if I finally throw over Showtime in favor of HBO.

"There are few hours in life more agreeable than the hour dedicated to the ceremony known as afternoon tea."

I'm going to try to convince TCG to add it into the mix.

"...and then Legolas and the Hulk destroy the entire Greek army." - Penny Arcade

Boy, I was not expecting to hear the theme from The Jeffersons on Lovecraft Country!

Woe to the fucking wicked.

So, we finished Lovecraft Country over the weekend. The finale was kinda anti-climactic...but the season was quite good, if falling into many of the genre frustrations ("Have you people considered talking to each other? PLEASE?").

Not sure how I feel about S2...I kinda hope they don't bring in another couple guys, but I'm sure they will.

Lovecraft Country had some flaws, but I loved it. As a proud blerd, it was really terrific to see characters of color anchor a genre series. I loved the juxtaposition of the power in the magical world vs. the lack of power in the "real" world. Also, the music was incredible.

I'm looking forward to the next season.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

Agreed. The balls and style of the soundtrack were great, and the show wouldn't have been nearly as good without it (I kind of wish that Christina had ended up on the moon at the end, as a callback to "Whitey's on the Moon"

Also agreed on the flaws (which, as with nearly any show, I could go on about At Length), but I appreciate that we're starting to get to the point where POC-anchored genre shows don't have to be above reproach to be worthwhile. And there were some moments that, even as a White lady, I could see the resonant points that they were hitting, without the show-as-show taking a hit.

I do struggle with Montrose...I think they would have been better off not having had Yahima (sp?) at all than doing the plot they did.

Montrose was INCREDIBLY problematic for me. I wonder if they processed the optics of his accepting his sexuality while his partner was in drag, and then rejected him the next morning in boy clothes. And I really had an issue with the fact that he murdered Yahima, Tic beat him up, and then nothing was ever said again. WTF? Although the writer has fully acknowledged that she did not treat the character of Yahima well.

Woe to the fucking wicked.

It will be interesting to see how he takes Tic's directive going forward. I hope he doesn't just think he has license to be shitty to Letti.

Also, I mean, they have fucking magic. They could bring Yahima back without even very much hand-wavium.

If I want to become a cloud of bats, does each bat need a separate vaccination?

Is this where we talk about Harley Quinn? (Everyone needs to be watching Harley Quinn. It is so good.)

Mr. Scola’s wardrobe by Botany 500

I mostly loved it, although I still hated how they portrayed Jim Gordon, and to a lesser extent, Babs.
