"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

So, I'm finally making headway in DEADWOOD season 1. It just took a little effort to get re-started and now the momentum is carrying me along.

I made it through SUFFER THE LITTLE CHILDREN before TDS/TCR/bed called, and, YIKES! - both Kristen Bell and Powers Booth were mighty scary in that (Booth gets the edge given the outcome). Poor Joanie. Definitely the harshest thing I've seen on the show up to now (Bullock's fight to the death in PLAGUE was a close second), though it's still small potatoes compared to the street fight in season 3.

Relatedly, Corwood, I absolutely loved Tom Block's deep analysis essay on that sequence in the new HIGH HAT. That's some fine writing (Dana's piece that touched heavily on McCABE was really good too).

Always Anti-fascist!

How much does Omar need to visit James Dobson's house? "Tofu this, bitch." heh heh heh. There were actual gay stick-up men Ed Burns ran across during his career...Omar was a composite of three different guys.

They were pretty great. Although they made me feel like a punk-assed scribe. I am sort of a fandom court jester...isn't that the way? Comics want to write tragedy and vice versa.

"Look, son, if it's good enough for Shirley Bassey, it's good enough for you."

Hey, they had a Deadwood shout-out and they used "Walk On Gilded Splinters" in the Wire finale. (Not the best or even the second best version of that song, but it's still a great song.)

Kind of heartbreaking with little shafts of hope. Plus it looks like they're setting a lot up for the last season.

Hey, I just read...

Gang- and Drug-Related Homicide: Baltimore's Successful Enforcement Strategy by Detective Edward Burns, retired

Which means I'm suckered in for sure, now, huh?

Compassionately intolerant

My favorite 16 year old is desperate for the Wired first season for the holiday. Any tips on where to find it at a reasonable price? Amazon and, even ebay seem a bit much.

Stepmonster got it at Costco, After all the monologuing about never hearing of it and yada yada like the true fuckin' cheesefaced bitch that she is. I'm sure it was cheap. She'd never spend many ducats on me. Sixteen? Sounds like me at sixteen. Don't let that scare you or nothin', a'ight? Yeah...the'bot is a Wirefiend now.(Who gets the disposable cel...Dennis Wise corrected us all on the use of 'burner' once so I've never used it again, cause, you know...Dennis Wise. The man knows. He says he always used "burner" to mean a gun used in a crime than tossed.)
