Terrible things definitely keep happening.
In my attempt to read an episode's worth of the book each week, I have discovered that I pretty much can't, because when I get caught up to what is going on in Westeros all the Daenarys stuff is still pages and pages away. I can't tell yet what that will mean to her arc on TV, but surely some adjustment will have to be made.
Maybe changing their relationship is part of speeding that up? I don't know.
Tangentially relatedly: HBO mashup pic
Maybe. I can't see how at this point, but maybe.
That pic is great!
If you suspect you're a GRR Martin character you might as well just kill yourself right away, because it is only going to get worse, and be a lot more unpleasant when you do get agonizingly killed.
At the end of the book series, I fully expect only Tyrion, Arya and Dolorous Edd (not yet met in the TV series) will be standing in an ash-clogged hellscape.
IO9 asked who the hero was--I think the closest they came, if the show has one, was Tyrion.
Which one's Tyrion? (I'm having a REALLY hard time keeping track of names!)
t edit
never mind -- looked it up -- the dwarf!
Anybody who slaps Joffrey and hates Jamie is a hero in my books right now. We'll see how things go.
I thought at this point only one of the children could be a hero.
We haven't seen Tyrion do anything bad or even regrettable yet. No doubt that'll change, because it seems that's how they roll, but of all the adults so far he seems the most clear-headed, and the most genuinely interested in the wellbeing of anyone not related to him or not able to give him power.
Comfort of knowing you are, have been, and always been on the outside, while having a measure of privilege anyway, I'd guess.
Tyrion is definitely my favorite character, although I do like Ned, too. And Arya! She's a hardcore little thing. I'm interested in how Dany is going to evolve, but I'm not sure I *like* her yet.
so far he seems the most clear-headed
Tyrion is definitely a realist, and I appreciate that he's clear about his measure of privilege.
I'm irritated by Sansa, simply because she seems as one-note as Cersei so far. Joffrey, on the other hand, is delicious to loathe.
