The show can only crush my hope if I'm allowed to have it, though! I don't need any more doom and gloom that doesn't come from the show itself.

[NAFDA] A thread for the discussion of all original programming on HBO, Showtime, Starz and other premium channels.
This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

There's hope, P-Cow. It ain't all doom and gloom by any means.
David Simon is actually eating at my regular neighborhood restaurant right now. With this guy [link]
I'm getting the news from my friend working across the street. I'm at work in another neighborhood. Otherwise I'd see if PC had any questions I could try to get answered.
Heh, I'm not sure I would have any questions besides, like, WHY IS YOUR SHOW SO CONFUSING?
And a follow-up, if I may: WHY DO YOU KEEP KILLING MY FAVORITE CHARACTERS?

Hah! I bet he got this one A. Lot.
To say that he was unprepared for the fandom response to the Stringer thing is putting it mildly. He was all "Narrative flow," and the fans were like "Foamy! Want."Oh, Zorzi...the put-a-broom-up-my-ass guy. And I do not mean porn. I read an article about media consolidation the other day and I cou;d not stop thinking about that.

Ha! It's weird to think of Wire "fandom."

Heh. Forget the foamy: I really thought we were going to see Stringer continue to rise. That seemed to me the way the story was going (and why I thought they were going take Avon out of the picture). He wasn't completely out of the game, but it felt like he might slowly move more and more into his developing business until he finally realized that he could, in fact, be just as profitable without being a part of the drug trade. And I wanted to see that. Grah. WHAT ABOUT MY NARRATIVE FLOW, SIMON??
Forget the foamy
Easy for you to say, straight boy.
Stringer was sort of a tragic figure...the king that reaches too far always has to die. I get that, even though my grades on Greek tragedy were never that great(I'm not sure if being older or this 'verse helps me to understand better) But there were times that I really admired what Stringer aspired to. And he is a foamy motherfucker, too. And yeah, there's a fandom. Enough to get bitter about HBO's "250 loyal viewers" comments at the end of season 3. I've got "Wire" icons. That's a fandom, even without...I don't know, Lol- McNultys? "I'm in ur bar chattin up ur womenz"
Honey-Nut Cheerios: Personally, I don't think The Wire is a hope-killer, though it's true it's not the show's general...currency. I just think of it this way: that there is plenty of great stuff all over Balmer that we don't see. In much the same way that other shows don't show us the badness, or quite often, anyone struggling in any way whatever.
