Heh. Forget the foamy: I really thought we were going to see Stringer continue to rise. That seemed to me the way the story was going (and why I thought they were going take Avon out of the picture). He wasn't completely out of the game, but it felt like he might slowly move more and more into his developing business until he finally realized that he could, in fact, be just as profitable without being a part of the drug trade. And I wanted to see that. Grah. WHAT ABOUT MY NARRATIVE FLOW, SIMON??

Stringer was sort of a tragic figure...the king that reaches too far always has to die. I get that, even though my grades on Greek tragedy were never that great(I'm not sure if being older or this 'verse helps me to understand better) But there were times that I really admired what Stringer aspired to. And he is a foamy motherfucker, too. And yeah, there's a fandom. Enough to get bitter about HBO's "250 loyal viewers" comments at the end of season 3. I've got "Wire" icons. That's a fandom, even without...I don't know, Lol- McNultys? "I'm in ur bar chattin up ur womenz"

Honey-Nut Cheerios: Personally, I don't think The Wire is a hope-killer, though it's true it's not the show's general...currency. I just think of it this way: that there is plenty of great stuff all over Balmer that we don't see. In much the same way that other shows don't show us the badness, or quite often, anyone struggling in any way whatever.

That opening scene with Omar walking to the corner store UNARMED AND IN HIS PAJAMAS and still freaking everyone out was too funny. Also, what the hell happened to Dante? Guess the fact that he held out for as long as he could wasn't good enough.

I meant to mention this before, but I really like seeing how Carver has grown in between seasons. Now he actually knows the kids, and they know him, and it's like he's a real police. I was always hoping that random theft during the Barksdale raid would come back, but I guess that was just supposed to be an example of their past corruption. I mean, it sort of happened, and then it was like it never happened. I expected Herc and Carver to keep a little something for themselves when they searched Nicky Sobotka's place, but they didn't. I mean, I'm glad they've become better people since then, but it just sort of happened without notice.

I do not approve of this Lt. Marimow bullshit! What the shit is this shit? Basically dismantling the Major Crimes Unit Daniels worked a whole goddamn season to get! And turning it into some piece of shit! Hell, it wasn't until now that I realized Daniels wasn't actually running that thing anymore; they could essentially run themselves, after all.

The hazing of Kima is amusing, but it's weird because Kima's not some rookie out of the academy or anything. It feels weird to see her so green. I mean, is Homicide really that different from what she'd been doing?

He took Wee-Bay's place as a Barksdale lieutenant. With Avon and Stringer out of the picture, he's trying to keep the remnant of the Barksdale empire alive as much as possible, but he's basically a free agent where you are in the series.
