Punishingly Intricate

Perhaps the episode guide can jog your memory?

Oh, yes, thank you! That is a veritable Precious Moments of a Deadwood ep.

What else besides ramen can you scoop? YOU CAN SCOOP THIS WORLD FROM DARKNESS!

The episode is called "Suffer The Little Children" and Kristen Bell's character has been introduced.

Aw, man, she doesn't last long, does she. I thought she'd make it at least one more episode.

Hee, thanks. I know she meets a particularly gruesome end, but I don't know any specifics.

How saccharine and sweet!

E.B. (the B is for Bold!) has less of a moral center than I thought. Al must be rubbing off on him, the way he so heartily suggested killing Bullock and Alma.

Star's crush on Trixie is very amusing.

I'm not sure I entirely understand what's going on with that goddamn claim. It's as if Al's admitted defeat, but he obviously means to profit from it somehow.

I'm finding Alma's should-I-stay-or-should-I-go waffling irritating because Molly Parker's got third goddamn billing for some reason; she ain't leaving Deadwood. And I can't fathom why the hell Bullock is so persistent with her unless he's sweet on her, which is entirely likely except for the fact that he appears to be physically incapable of flirting.

OMG SEXY SLEEPING.

Flora! You psychopathic bitch! And I never got to find out whether Miles was actually her brother; I expected there to be some sort of twist where we found out he was her lover. I'm a little disappointed that the whole scheme appeared to be about nothing but petty robbery. I mean, what, she was going to get away with some jewelry ? There seemed to be an awful lot of planning going into their little "Let's take 'em both" maneuver; I thought they were after something more sinister.

Flora's true colors were fun to see. Kristen Bell, cursing up a storm! Wielding a knife! Getting the shit beaten out of her! Er. (That wasn't nearly as bad as I was expecting from what I'd heard. Hell, she got out easy with a bullet to the head.)

I wonder what the point of all that hullabaloo was, though. I guess it was to give Tolliver and Joanie something to do? That's a fucked-up pair, there.

I don't understand what's going on with Al and Trixie at all.

Well, you know, as Shakespeare said, "He that lieth to me getteth his ass kicked...oops, wrong fandom!) "Twas big enough. Twill serve." One thing I learned from the Wire as well is that, if you set it up right, it doesn't have to be this big brutal bloodbath slaying.

Just finished the first season. I hope the other two seasons keep up the same level of quality.

Farnum as Mayor is the worst idea of all time ha ha ha. What an obsequious twat.

Aw, Jewel is the cutest gimp ever.

Oh my God, what the hell was the point of the stupid Reverend? "Hi, I'm going to be annoying, get sick and be more annoying, and then die. The end."

Star and Trixie! Aw.

Now I know why Erika calls him Swergin. Ha, Mr. Wu is awesome. "Cocksuckers!" "Yeah, I'm glad I taught you that one."

I was wondering why Alma's dad looked so familiar. He's Cory's dad from Boy Meets World!

I loved the conversation between Al and Adams where he's all "If a certain person did a certain something, then a certain other person would be happy." Heh.

Bullock! Giving Alma's dad a beatdown! Popping out his teeth! Man. I loved the look on his face after he left, like "What the motherfucking hell did I just DO??" (And his later conversation with Star bears that out. I love it!)

And, wow, then Bullock totally pulls an Al and gives Dority the old "certain person" speech...kinda. He just indirectly orders a hit! What a guy!

Speaking of Dority: holding a shotgun under the table = WIN. Ahahaha.

Bullock as Sheriff? ALSO WIN.

Bullock and Alma finally getting their rocks off? IT'S ABOUT TIME.

I love how Al went from hating Bullock's guts to sort of having a grudging respect for him. I really wonder how having Bullock as Sheriff is going to work, since Bullock is not going to stand for being in Al's pocket. At all. Unless he does and feels like a shit about it. Which could happen.

I don't know what's up with the Doc's religious experience.

I enjoy the newspaperman. He amuses me.

Joanie!

I love that there are so many different plots going on in every episode, throughout the season. It's all interwoven. The town of Deadwood feels like a real place with lots of people doing stuff all the time, even when we don't see it. It's alive.

Always Anti-fascist!

I always kinda felt for the Reverend.ETA: I never understood him, but he seemed like a kind man. It's still hard not to see McShane in a commercial and say "Swergin!"
