After finishing S1 of Deadwood, I have about 5 essays I want to write. One of them would be a breakdown of the closing shot of the final episode, with Bullock and Alma separate but together, above the muck and filth of the town. Another would be comparing Jane and Joanie - their childhoods and the wildly different paths both took, with a bit comparing Bill to Cy, and a discussion of the struggle for independence.
The tension between dependence and independence is really the throughline of the entire series, I think.
Salon's got "Which is better--Sopranos or The Wire?" Lame, huh?
But I gotta pick the Wire due to the lateness of mainstream respect, and because Emmy is apparently "a cheese-faced bitch."
The Sopranos doesn't really need any more boosters, though "Pine Barrens" is a comedy classic.
Raq, are you going through DEADWOOD for the first time? Because you MUST post more about your watching of it. I love hearing people's posts as they go through things I've seen and loved before, much like I enjoy showing movies or TV series to people who haven't seen them before. I love fresh reactions.
I'm not done with S2 (stalled out there after a while, for RL reasons), but I'm a good couple episodes behind for commentary. I really ought to do something about that.

I am. I will try to do a watch-and-post.
Please do that, cocksucker.
Just a couple of meta motherfuckers, there.
