So, how was your summer? Mine was fun. Saw some fish. Went mad with hunger. Hallucinated a whole bunch.

Punishingly Intricate

It's dawning on me that I would pay good money to watch this deathmatch.

FINALLY, a way to raise money using our talents. (Actually i think this deathmatch would turn out to be a total hugfest I mean, it's Steve Earle! So cuddly!)

Hugmatch 2007! This time it's personal.

"We are the Goon Squad and we're coming to town...Beep! Beep!" - David Bowie, "Fashion"

Still making my way through Dexter - down to 5 episodes (I think - only one left on the second disc at any rate). Absolutely loving it. I already know the ending's probably going to be substantially different since they've diverged so far from the book, which isn't necessarily bad.

I did have one complaint about last night where I thought Dexter was sticking his neck way out 1) visiting the kid, especially since he was Doakes bust, and 2) going to see the "Ice-truck Killer" wannabe at all. I was also impressed with the doorway confrontation between Dexter and Rita's asshole ex just on a technical level: even knowing he wasn't going to get punched, it must be really difficult to act that without even blinking or flinching a little.

move out and draw fire

After finishing S1 of Deadwood, I have about 5 essays I want to write. One of them would be a breakdown of the closing shot of the final episode, with Bullock and Alma separate but together, above the muck and filth of the town. Another would be comparing Jane and Joanie - their childhoods and the wildly different paths both took, with a bit comparing Bill to Cy, and a discussion of the struggle for independence.

The tension between dependence and independence is really the throughline of the entire series, I think.

Always Anti-fascist!

Salon's got "Which is better--Sopranos or The Wire?" Lame, huh? But I gotta pick the Wire due to the lateness of mainstream respect, and because Emmy is apparently "a cheese-faced bitch." The Sopranos doesn't really need any more boosters, though "Pine Barrens" is a comedy classic.

Raq, are you going through DEADWOOD for the first time? Because you MUST post more about your watching of it. I love hearing people's posts as they go through things I've seen and loved before, much like I enjoy showing movies or TV series to people who haven't seen them before. I love fresh reactions.

I'm not done with S2 (stalled out there after a while, for RL reasons), but I'm a good couple episodes behind for commentary. I really ought to do something about that.

I am. I will try to do a watch-and-post.

Life moves pretty fast. You don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.

Please do that, cocksucker.

This brought some motherfucking tears to my eyes: a deleted scene from the final episode of The Wire (not spoilery at all, and in fact essential for all Wire fans to read right fucking now).
