So I got my hands on a copy of Dexter season 2 premiere. To say it is awesome and my show is back? Would in no way do it justice.
Thoughts: Man, way to set up a plot arc *and* an emotional arc in one episode, show! I admit, I had wondered in what direction they were going to go with Dexter's brother being dead by the end of the first season, but I am so on board with this new direction. It's fascinating to watch Dexter grow, like an odd, stunted flower, but that's totally what he was doing throughout this episode. Man. It was just so on, I don't even think I have coherent things! Just lots of awesome.
I can't wait for this to get going again.
SA, have you read the books? Does it look like they are going to follow the second book or that they've decided to forge ahead on their own with character.
Season 1 is being released on DVD in August. Can't. Wait. I haven't seen an episode yet, but I'm hearing Michael C. Hall's voice in my head as I'm reading. Since they are first person, that would make an AWSOME audio-book, I think.
There's also a new Dexter novel coming out sometime soon. ETA Sept. 18 per Amazon.
I have read the books, which I why I was surprised that [book spoilers and season one spoilers] they decided to kill off his brother at the end of last season--I totally expected them to keep him on into the second. But in this season so far, [premiere spoilers] they're using the Doakes storyline and I think the thing where Dexter's serial killing is found out. Augh, I haven't read the books since last year when I fell in love with this show, so I'm having trouble remembering what was when.
There are audiobooks out there, actually, but I've forgotten who read them. MCH is the best Voice of Dexter ever, though.
Rewatching The Wire S1 Ep1. I'd forgotten how clunky it is at this stage.
Is it? It's all shiny and lovely in my memory. Smells like roses.
or at least like McNuggets. I guess I didn't get that feeling though cause I started watching for the girls in the can of Season 2. Bushy Top's accent's improved a fair bit since, though. But, now that you say that I seem to remember that Simon mentioned a flashback to the Gant murder in the pilot, and that they hadn't done that sort of thing in any episode since.
Yeah, the accent, the flashback, even some of the exposition all sorta sucked. The fact that every freakin' second of it is necessary for later plot points, well, that's awesome.
That flashback was the one big note they've received from HBO.(/ The Wire likes gritty, urban carrots) And yes, I love how the Wire always uses stuff again. It makes it hard to introduce to non-fiends, however.I used to think DW was Australian because that's what overlaying Baltimore on top of London kind of sounded like, here in Arizona, land of the uniflected. He's pretty decent, now. Although not in the "No way...he's British?!" league with Hugh Laurie and Idris Elba.
I just caught the most recent FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS and the "Bowie in Space" stuff just had me on the floor (especially the Let's Dance style stuff over the end credits).
