I hope you don't think that I just come over for the spells and everything. I mean, I really like just talking and hanging out with you and stuff.

Boxed Set, Vol. III: "That Can't Be Good..."

A topic for the discussion of Farscape, Smallville, and Due South. Beware possible invasions of Stargate, Highlander, or pretty much any other "genre" show that captures our fancy. Expect Adult Content and discussion of the Big Gay Sex.

Whitefont all unaired in the U.S. ep discussion, identifying it as such, and including the show and ep title in blackfont.

Blackfont is allowed after the show has aired on the east coast.

This is NOT a general TV discussion thread.

S to the A -- using they/them pronouns!

Far be it from me to harsh your squee, dudes. It's irrelevant to me how it's done, because I'm not in a position to participate, so for me it's just skipping over two hundred or so posts on a Friday. Since I'm not going to read the posts anyway, having a skip to here works for me. But that's about as far as it pings my radar.

Bob's learned to live with tragedy, but he knows that this tragedy is one that won't ever leave him or get better.

I think I've typed and deleted about a page worth of posts, because I'm not sure how to say what I want to.
Pretty sure I have typed the equivalent of War and Peace tonight. And then, you know, deleted it so I could retype all over again.

I want to be a good neighbor, but I ...

I have no analogy.

FWIW, it seems like a perfectly cromulent use of Boxed Set to me. It also doesn't bother me at all, but that's really beside the point... well, my point, anyway, which is the cromulence.

Days shrink and grow cold, sunlight through leaves is my song. Winter is long.

I feel an announcement or warning in advance of a dvd W&P is a little excessive, and that the posts we do setting up ep, day and time is, you know, an announcement.

I do understand the disappointment, though. I feel much the same way when I see bunches of new posts here, and find acres of whitefont over ahemmed shows that I won't likely see until and unless they're aired. By the time they are aired, there won't be much discussion, and honestly, no matter how I promise myself I'll go back and read the discussion, I know I won't.

As for the question at hand, realistically, we've only three S1 eps left, so SPN dvd W&P will be out of the thread shortly anyway. But if W&Ping dvds slows down or disrupts discussion of currently airing stuff, I do think the board could use a dvd thread, for Farscape, or Highlander, or SG:1 dvds, or even The OC, Wonderfalls, Due South, Slings and Arrows--if it's on dvd and a handful of people want to set up W&P dates, I'd like to do it where I don't feel I'm disrupting discussion of current shows.

S to the A -- using they/them pronouns!

I don't think it slows down or disrupts discussion, and it is a perfectly good use of the thread. I do think that, since it's limited to the people who participate in the w&p's, that a skip to here is both sufficient and useful for people who want to bookmark the discussion (since it does tend to be in sequence without other discussion in between) and who want to skip the discussion. Hence the original suggestion remains the best one, IMO.

'we all walk this earth feeling we are frauds. The trick is to be grateful and hope the caper doesn't end any time soon"

I had hoped I phrased my reactions in a non-condemnatory way -- I quite agree that it's a proper use of the thread. However, making nice for the non-SPN fans (or non-W&P fans) makes for good thread-neighboring.

I did find the overlap between the BSG season finale (which was a hyyyyuuuuuuge discussion topic) and the W&P for a different show immediately afterward a bit of a car crash.

Note that because of the nature of reality, there's always the possibility that two Boxed Set shows might have discussion-intensive events happening at the same time, so it's not like we won't face overlapping thread traffic again.

What is even happening?

I don't want people to NOT W&P in here. I like reading it. Well, I like skimming it. I half love John Winchester now, and feel defensive of him, even though I've never watched the show. I'm sorry I said anything. I wasn't trying to shoo anyone out, so much as say, "Yeah, there have been times the timing was less than ideal, but I like to see Buffistas flailing." That's It.

I don't need a link. I can skim or skip on my own. I don't want a new thread. I don't want us to nanny in here. This is the most fun thread on the board.

edited to be clear

That I meant my double-negative at the opening. That is by saying, "I don't want people to NOT," I was very much saying, "I do want people TO."

"I remember when they eventually introduced that drug kingpin who murdered people and smuggled drugs inside snakes and I was like 'Finally. A normal person.'” —RahvinDragand

I don't mind seeing the watch-and-flail here even if I'm not participating—IMHO, this is the proper thread for it. And the fannish joy is fun by osmosis even if one isn't watching the show. (Says the guy who got pulled into the BSG finale by the energetic spoiler discussion despite not watching any of the prior Season 3 eps.)

I would be REALLY strongly opposed to discussion of another show taking over our Buffy & Angel thread, even if it is low volume. That would feel disrespectful of our origins to me.

Love is stronger than death and harder than sorrow. Those who practice it are fierce like the light of stars traveling eons to pierce the night.

I think a link to the end of the W&P at the beginning would be a good compromise for the time being.

I don't watch SPN, but this is the right thread for it, so having the w&p here is cake; having a link to the end of it for the convenience of skipping would be icing. As a matter of my own preferences, I find the SPN squeeage less bothersome than some of the other shows that I don't watch. What would be most helpful for series-specific skimming is color coding. Right, cuz ya know that would be easy and practical. t /irony Then again, I think no one would complain if we got even better at labeling up front in our posts which shows we were talking about - but before I get too whiny about that, I have to become more consistent with it myself.

"Mister Spock is on his fanny, sir. Reports heavy damage."

FWIW, the original nillying event was a post-guide for west-coast viewers to skip over east-coast W&P of Buffy -- not because the snooty west-coasters weren't interested, but because they wanted to do their own flailing at the moment that worked for them.

So, nillying and providing skip-points to a W&P has a long and honorable tradition! I do tend to read through them myself (guessing at what is actually going on when somebody posts, "Oh no! Weepy alert!" or "If you make that face too much it will get stuck that way, Sam."), but I don't think a request for nillying should be intended or taken as a "take your squee elsewhere" notice.
